President Bush

Letter writer John Holter criticizes President Bush for not attending Ground Zero with the current president ("Bush should have gone to Ground Zero," May 8). I wonder if Mr. Holter is aware that former President Clinton also declined an initiation to visit Ground Zero with President Obama? Does Mr. Holter feel that former President Clinton also turned his back on his supporters, the dignity of the office of president and the victory we are now celebrating? George Bush has refrained from criticizing Mr. Obama since the new president took office, despite the fact that Mr. Obama has criticized President Bush relentlessly.

Obama's self- serving, childish arrogance to constantly pat himself on the back for assassinating Osama bin Laden using all the information collected by former President Bush just shows the length this unqualified individual will go to be reelected. J. Nelson, Baltimore

What is it with presidents and getting locked out of places?  President Barack Obama found himself locked out of the White House yesterday, but Obama cooly played it off, entering through another door. He's so calm he even appears to be whistling. And that's important, because, when you're the president, your every waking move is likely to be recorded.      A similar situation happened to President George W. Bush in 2005, but when it happened to Bush, it was much, much funnier.

Peggy Alley says President Obama should be impeached (Readers respond, Nov. 8). I remind Ms. Alley however, that all the conditions she mentions, including enforcement of immigration laws, existed, and in most cases were created, during the Bush administration. American citizens were losing jobs, having their homes foreclosed on and having to choose between food and prescriptions. Illegal immigrants were coming into the country in record numbers and sending their children to public schools.

Over the last couple of days there have been letters published criticizing the respective political parties. One claims that President Obama and his administration is failing miserably and the other blames the Republicans for messes created during the Bush years. It simply amazes me that these views still exist. Those who lean to the left continually blame President Bush for all of our country's existing problems. Well guess what? At some point, your president is going to have to take responsibility for loading this country with debilitating debt rather than blaming previous administrations.

I'm getting tired of hearing President Obama and the Democrats blaming former President Bush for the state of affairs these days. I'm not stating he didn't have a hand in it. However, would I be wrong in stating the Democrats had a majority in the Senate and House two years before President Obama and a majority in the first term of President Obama? Why are the Democrats blaming Bush when they have had a majority for the past three years? Nancy Pelosi has been the Speaker of the House since January 4, 2007.

T here must be a hidden footnote in the section of the Constitution that requires the president to report to Congress from time to time mandating that this address include the phrase, "The state of our union is strong." President Obama got around to it eventually last night, in spite of the fact that most Americans would probably choose some other word if asked to fill in the blank at the end of that sentence. What would be the consensus national pick? Cranky? Anxious? Fed-up? Gridlocked?

I read with amusement both letters from Carlnk1 and Susan Scott of Forest Hill that ran alongside The Sun's editorial on Sunday ("One year of Obama," Jan. 24.). In Carlhk1's letter, everything he complained about -- deficits, job losses, violations of the Constitution -- all happened under President Bush, but I know from talking to Republicans that they cannot find any fault in him, yet I can find fault in President Obama. Why is it that Republicans are blinded, but Democrats can see both the good and bad in people?
