On July 19, 2005, EDMUND J. EISENMEIER of Carney, MD, died after a long illness. He is survived by one son, Joseph; wife, Dianne Eisenmeier and one granddaughter, Melissa. His body is being donated to the anatomy board. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 11 A.M. at Aisquith Presbyterian Church, 7515 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD 21234. Donations may be made to the church.

Edith D. Conley, a community volunteer and former nurse, died of pneumonia Dec. 28 at Charlestown Retirement Community, where she had lived for the past 13 years. The former North Baltimore resident was 91. The former Edith Martina DeYoung said in a biographical sketch she prepared several years ago, "I was born in a log house in Appalachia where my father was an itinerant minister of the Dutch Reformed Church, serving three stations at Grayhawk, McKee and Annville, Ky., the area of the Hatfields and McCoys."

Amid the scrutiny given to America's post-war exodus to the suburbs, the increase in the number of churches and synagogues beyond city boundaries tends to be overlooked. Just as homebuilders and retailers acted swiftly to capitalize on a burgeoning suburban clientele, religious groups moved to establish places of worship for former city-dwellers. A bishop knows as well as a businessman that survival means being where the people are.Now more Americans are leaving the increasingly urban suburbs for the more rural exurbs, and they are again being trailed by homebuilders, retailers and, as evidenced by a current handful of cases in Baltimore County, religious groups.

The Harundale-Oakwood Park Civic Association will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Harundale Presbyterian Church to introduce its new administration and address community concerns about the neighborhood. Incoming President Michael Jennings promises coffee, cookies and information on planned improvements to streets, sidewalks and the two community parks. The outgoing president, Calvin Emge, who has been a member and officer for close to three decades, will be honored, and the association will discuss plans for holiday activities.

Humphries Position: Wide receiver College: Presbyterian (S.C) Who he is: A two-year standout at the Division II school, Humphries played in all 11 games and had 95 receptions for 1,340 yards and 14 touchdowns his senior year. He played forward on the Presbyterian basketball team for four seasons. As a senior, he earned All-South Atlantic Conference and All-Region in basketball. A freezing Christmas ushered thousands to Baltimore's churches for joyful worship and a day of giving.Volunteers served more than 200 ham and turkey dinners to the homeless at midday yesterday at the Light Street Presbyterian Church in Federal Hill.Members of Catonsville Presbyterian, Chestnut Grove Presbyterian in Phoenix and Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian churches and the staff of the Presbytery of Baltimore worked shifts to prepare food and gifts given to all the guests."Yes, Virginia, there's poor beyond the harbor and we have them here," said Jaye Burtnick, director of the South Baltimore Emergency Relief Center.
