John Girard Riggs, known to WHFS-FM listeners as "Johnny" Riggs, pleaded guilty to having child pornography and was sentenced yesterday in Howard County District Court to two years' probation. Riggs, 38, of Ellicott City, is a popular "drive time" rock disc jockey whose show runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on 99.1 FM, a CBS-owned station in the Baltimore-Washington area. Howard County police searched Riggs' Falls Run Road house Dec. 7, 1999, because they suspected him of ordering anabolic steroids over the Internet, a police report stated.

A woman told police that an unidentified man cut up her shoes while she was watching a movie in a Glen Burnie theater Tuesday.According to the police report, Carol Henning, of the 200 block of Allwood Drive in Glen Burnie, was in a theater in the 7400 block of B&A Boulevard at 6:50 p.m. and had taken off her shoes.She noticed a man in front of her who would sit unreasonably close to people and kept moving around. Sometime during the movie, the man had crawled under the rows of seats, cut up her shoes and put them back, the police report said.

A Baltimore man has been charged with impersonating a police officer after he allegedly placed a victim in handcuffs and robbed him of $75, claiming the money smelled like cocaine. Baltimore police said the victim, 21, was walking down the 1000 block of Poplar Grove Street in West Baltimore on Wednesday at about 2:45 p.m. when Jermaul Dean, 23, approached him with a badge and handcuffs. Dean said he was a police officer and ordered the victim to put his hands on his head and started patting him down, according to the police report.

A Baltimore police officer out walking his department dog in Druid Hill Park Wednesday afternoon shot and killed a pit bull that he said was attacking him, according to a police report. Police said Officer Jake Corbett was near the department's K-9 headquarters near Swann Drive when he noticed a pit bull running off the leash. The police dog, Thoda, was wearing a harness with Baltimore police patches and a neon police identification tag on a six-foot leash. Corbett said in a report that a black dog stared down Thoda from atop a hill about 100 yards away.

An 18-year old Annapolis resident who last week was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on a school bus at Annapolis High School was arrested on Tuesday night at an apartment and charged with marijuana possession, according to Annapolis police. According to a Wednesday morning police report, Luis Ruiz of Annapolis was arrested after officers received a report around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday that he was selling drugs on the 1100 block on Madison Street. Officers subsequently approached Ruiz when he left the area and ran into an apartment on the 1000 block of President Street, police said.

The 24-year-old son of Rep. Kweisi Mfume has been charged with the rape of an acquaintance at her suburban Atlanta apartment after an early morning breakfast at a nearby restaurant, police confirmed yesterday.Michael Gerard Mfume, a music video producer from Baltimore, was arrested July 14 at the 25-year-old woman's apartment in Dunwoody, Ga., north of Atlanta, and sat in the county jail until Monday evening, when he was released on $35,000 bond, Fulton County police said.He was charged with one count of rape, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment in Georgia, police said.

A 47-year-old Odenton woman reported to county police that she was kidnapped and raped Wednesday morning.According to the police report, the woman was abducted by two men as she walked out of her home at 11 a.m. The men drove her to an unidentified house in Odenton where one of the men raped her repeatedly, the police report said.The woman managed to leave the house early Thursday morning and went home, the police report said.By that time, her husband had reported her missing, police said.

A prominent Baltimore County lawyer has been accused of exposing himself to a female jogger on the Northern Central Railroad Trail on Thanksgiving morning, and police say the suspect matches the description of the half-naked man who has confronted women on the trail for the past 18 months. Police identified the suspect as David C. Daneker, 61, who was arrested Nov. 28 at his home in the 12600 block of Long Green Pike in Hydes. Daneker, vice president and general counsel for Sheppard Pratt Health System and a former partner at the Baltimore firm of Miles & Stockbridge, said yesterday that it is a case of mistaken identity.
