A Baltimore City police officer was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation after he attempted to alert residents about a two-alarm fire in the Bolton Hill neighborhood Saturday afternoon. Fire department spokesman Capt. Roman Clark said the officer suffered minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The blaze in the 1800 block of Eutaw Place began around 2:30 p.m. and was placed under control about two hours later, he said.

Our nation has laid to rest another hero. Officer Sean Collier, police officer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was tragically killed in the events that led to the capture of the Boston Marathon bombers ("Slain MIT police officer remembered," April 25). At the young age of 27, Officer Collier had always wanted to be a police officer and chose to do so protecting the campus of MIT. At the Maryland Classified Employees Association, Inc., we have the honor of representing university police officers across the state from Salisbury University to Bowie State University and Frostburg State University.

A nine-year veteran Bladensburg police officer was killed Saturday after veering his marked vehicle off an Anne Arundel County highway and colliding with a car traveling in the opposite direction, police said. Officer Brian Johnson, 38, who was off duty when the collision occurred about 9 a.m., is believed to have experienced a medical emergency just prior to the collision, Anne Arundel County Police said, though no specifics were immediately available. Police believe Johnson was traveling eastbound on Route 100 near Catherine Avenue in Pasadena when he suddenly crossed the center median.

A Baltimore County police officer has been charged with malfeasance in office after detectives said he repeatedly engaged in and recorded sexual acts while on duty, including at least one video sent to a 16-year-old girl. Aaron Z. Pross, 29, of Newark, Del., who was assigned to the Pikesville Precinct, is being investigated by his agency and could face additional charges. Detectives said he took more than 120 images and 20 videos engaging in sexual acts with himself and an adult woman while he was working.

A Baltimore County police officer was arrested on a warrant Thursday and charged with malfeasance in office, though details on what led to his arrest were not immediately available. Aaron Pross, 29, a county policeman hired in 2007, posted bond and was released Thursday, according to court records. Attempts to reach him for comment were unsuccessful, and he had no attorney listed in court records. Lt. Rob McCullough, a spokesman for the department, said Pross' police powers have been suspended.

Police on Tuesday worked to find out more about the backgrounds of the two men wounded and one man killed in an overnight shootout with officers in West Baltimore. The incident took place about 10 p.m. Monday after two officers on foot patrol in the 2700 block of Edmondson Ave. saw gunfire coming out of a bronze sedan, police said. The officers fired on the car, police said. All three men shot were in the vehicle, police said. Police did not know the dead man's identity Tuesday and were running his fingerprints through databases.

Less than two weeks after signing a one-year contract with the Ravens, linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested in Decatur, Ala., on Sunday and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. McClain, who is from Decatur and played college football at Alabama, was arrested after an incident at Pines Park, according to a police report. Police officers arrived at Pines Park in response to a reported disturbance, resulting from what witnesses said was somebody spitting on McClain's car, according to Lt.

When FBI agents heard on a wiretap that a Baltimore police detective was preparing to make a drug arrest based on false information, according to court documents, they decided not to intervene. The arrest of Brenda Brown went forward, and so did the federal case against Kendell Richburg. Richburg pleaded guilty last month to armed drug conspiracy charges after prosecutors said he protected a drug-peddling informant in exchange for information he needed to make arrests. Four more officers have been suspended in connection with the investigation, sources told The Baltimore Sun last week.

Baltimore County prosecutors will not be allowed to use information provided by James D. Laboard's lawyer on the night that the off-duty police officer allegedly killed a Randallstown teenager, a judge ruled Friday. During a criminal motions hearing, Circuit Judge Jan Marshall Alexander ruled that the lawyer's decision to talk to detectives violated attorney-client confidentiality. Prosecutors said the ruling would have little effect on the case. Laboard, a Baltimore County police officer, is charged with two counts of manslaughter in the death of 17-year-old Christopher Brown.
