A police-involved chase that began in West Baltimore ended with a collision on the Baltimore Beltway near Park Heights Avenue, snarling early morning traffic. According to Baltimore City police, officers responded at 6:22 a.m. Thursday to a call about a hit-and-run accident at Lombard and Gilmor streets in West Baltimore. According to preliminary reports, officers chased a vehicle to the inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway, where it ran into a guard rail near Park Heights Avenue.

Funeral arrangements for the state trooper killed in an accident on Interstate 95 over the weekend were released Monday, but details about the crash remain sketchy, according to a state police spokesman. Trooper First Class Shaft S. Hunter died Saturday when his cruiser slammed into a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder near the entrance ramp to Route 32 in Howard County. According to a witness, a motorcycle with a white-helmeted driver raced by, followed by Hunter's cruiser, shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday.

A former Baltimore County prosecutor was convicted Friday of armed carjacking and robbery for stealing a car at knifepoint from two women outside a store in January last year, according to the State's Attorney's Office. Isaiah Dixon, 55, was ordered to the Baltimore County Detention Center and is scheduled to be sentenced June 1. Dixon had worked as an assistant state's attorney for nearly eight years, until July 1997, and was in private practice until he was disbarred in 2010 after a history of drug problems and his arrest in the carjacking.

Two suspects have been arrested after police say three youths were shot in Turner's Station in Baltimore County and a lengthy police chase through Baltimore County and City. Three people were shot just after 8 p.m. in the area of Avondale Road and Lee Lawrence Court in Dundalk, said Lt. Robert McCullough, Baltimore County Police spokesman. A city police officer was also injured during the pursuit, city police said. McCullough said the chase began on Dundalk Avenue and continued through Baltimore City to Woodlawn.

The brother of Ed Reed is apparently missing after jumping into the Mississippi River to avoid police. According to WWLTV.com in Louisiana, officers from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office had been pursuing a man in St. Rose, La., Friday. Around 10 a.m., the man was seen jumping into the river. The man is believed to be 29-year-old Brian Reed , Reed's younger brother, according to their mother. Karen Reed acknowledged that Brian Reed has struggled with drug and alcohol abuse.

Cash reportedly flew out of the window of a car chased by police Wednesday on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, after a bank robbery in Millersville, police said. Around 10:30 a.m. a man went into the Washington Savings Bank in the 600 block of Old Mill Road, passed a robbery note, received cash and then fled onto Veterans Highway in a red Pontiac Firebird, said Justin Mulcahy, a county police spokesman. The car was spotted near I-97 and the Baltimore Beltway, Mulcahy said.

A 19-year-old Cambridge man was arrested after leading officers on a high speed chase and triggering a crash that injured six people on the Eastern Shore early Sunday, Maryland State police said. Armand J. Cornish was charged with attempting to elude an officer on foot and in a vehicle, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license, among other offenses, police said. Troopers pulled over a 1994 Ford Explorer around 4:30 a.m. in St. Michael's after they saw it weaving and crossing the center line, police said.

Khandaker Shajahan had just closed up his father's pizza shop on Frederick Avenue shortly after midnight yesterday and was sitting in his car when the attack began. A man opened his door and pistol-whipped him. The robber then took the $360 in his pockets and then fled into the night in Southwest Baltimore. But police officers were nearby - including a recently promoted deputy major, Anthony Brown, and Sgt. Robert Brown - who, with the help of witnesses, were able to chase down the robber, authorities said.

An Annapolis man driving a stolen car struck a police cruiser before driving through several back yards and dinging a second cruiser in an attempt to flee, city police said. Officers tried to pull over Marlin Simms, 30, of Cove Road in a Honda Element around 4:50 p.m. Dec. 29 after finding that county police had listed the car as stolen. He refused to stop, however, and made a U-turn, hitting the cruiser in the process. He then fled, with police cars pursuing on Taylor Avenue, across Rowe Boulevard, and onto Genessee Street, then through the back yards of residences to get onto Glenwood Street, where he continued to Clay and Pleasant Street.

An suspect in an auto theft was arrested yesterday morning after a long, slow-speed police pursuit through several neighborhoods in Baltimore, according to a department spokeswoman. Officer Nicole Monroe said the incident began about 10:30 a.m. in West Baltimore when members of the Regional Auto Theft Task Force spotted the vehicle in the 2400 block of W. Lexington St. They attempted to stop the vehicle, the make and model of which were not immediately available, but the driver didn't stop, Monroe said.
