Anne Arundel County police chased a suspect driving a stolen vehicle Tuesday but were unable to catch him, police said yesterday.The suspect, described as a white male with dark brown hair and possibly a mustache, and wearing a bright green shirt, was spotted driving the stolen 1990 Mercedes 300 on Brockbridge Road about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.Two patrol officers gave chase, lost sight of the suspect, then eventually found the stolen car parked in a driveway in the 12800 block of Fernwood Turn.

A 20-year-old man driving a car stolen in New Hampshire led police yesterday morning on a high-speed chase that began after he ran a toll booth on Interstate 95 in Cecil County.The 15-minute, 22-mile chase ended when the car crashed through another toll plaza, this time at the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel.The man, whose identity had not been established by police, and two female teen-age passengers were taken by ambulance to Harbor Hospital Center. Maryland state troopers said their injuries appeared to be minor.

Perhaps, you can excuse Baltimore police officers if they don't break out into a chorus of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" June 7 when the Orioles play host to the Toronto Blue Jays.June 7 is the date when a group of officers had planned to hold the 11th annual "Police Chase," a foot race that usually attracts about 1,000 runners and raises several thousand dollars for the Explorer Scouts in each of the nine police districts.But the officers were forced to drop this year's race because it coincided with a ballgame.

A Baltimore County police officer's attempt to pull over a car on Forest Park Avenue yesterday for illegally tinted windows led to a chase and crash that injured three people. Police said the driver of the car - a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville - took off at high speed when the officer tried to pull it over about 8:30 a.m., after it had turned onto Forest Park from Security Boulevard. Police said the officer broke off the milelong chase after the car crossed the city line, but saw the driver lose control at a curve in the 2400 block of Forest Park and swerve into the path of an oncoming Jeep Cherokee.

A Mount Airy man who attempted to outrun state police by driving his 1985 Ford pickup truck at speeds exceeding 100 mph during a 20-mile chase was captured after he entered a cornfield and ran from the truck, police reported.Officers said a man was spotted driving faster than the speed limit on Route 144 in Mount Airy about 2 a.m. Sunday. When Trooper Wesley Herman tried to stop the truck, it accelerated and crossed the line into Frederick County with the officer in pursuit.The trooper said the vehicle made several turns before returning to Carroll County and driving north on Route 27 at more than 100 mph. Police said the driver turned right on Cabbage Spring Road, left on Davis Road and left on Gillis Road, where he was boxed in by troopers.

A man driving a Dodge Caravan that had been reported stolen in Virginia crashed yesterday morning into two vehicles on Interstate 95 near White Marsh after being chased by a Maryland Transportation Authority police officer, authorities said. Officer Greg Day stopped the 1998 Dodge Caravan about 9:20 a.m. yesterday because its driver was not wearing a seat belt, police said. A routine check of the vehicle revealed it had been stolen in Henrico County, Va., police said. The man drove off, and Day chased him north on I-95 to just past the White Marsh exit, police said.

Two teen-agers died in a fiery car crash on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway early yesterday after being chased for five miles by U.S. Park Police, authorities said. A 17-year-old passenger in the Dodge Neon survived the accident near Route 32, where the car sped out of control and hit a tree before igniting, police said. The crash closed the northbound lanes of the parkway between Routes 198 and 32 for five hours. The pursuit began about 3 a.m. near the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, police officials said.

County police arrested an Edgewater man on disorderly conduct charges after they found him running and screaming in a field off Solomons Island Road in Harwood.Police said they arrested Robert Richard Johnson, 35, of the 1600 block of Shady Side Road.A resident of the 4300 block of Solomons Island Road called police about 10: 30 p.m. to report a screaming man. When police got to the field near Harwood Road, the man was near a van with a broken windshield parked on the shoulder, police said.

A man being chased by Baltimore County police along Marriottsville Road in Randallstown yesterday afternoon lost control of his car, which overturned and then erupted into flames, a police spokesman said. The driver, who was not identified because charges had not been filed, got out of the 1992 Buick and ran before the fire started, said Bill Toohey, a county police spokesman. After he was apprehended, the man was taken to Northwest Hospital Center for minor injuries from the crash, Toohey said.
