Baltimore County: Crime Two charged in Overlea man's death Baltimore County police arrested and charged two men in the shooting death Friday night of a 31-year-old Overlea man. Police said Anthony McPhatter, was killed about 11:45 p.m. in the 6100 block of Twilight Court. Police arrived at the scene of the shooting and saw a car speed away. Moments after officers gave chase, the car crashed, and police arrested Anthony F. Newman Jr., 25, of Clinton, Prince George's County, and Dante L. Stewart, 31, of Waldorf, Charles County.

Baltimore City Police said they arrested two men Saturday who allegedly attempted to rob teenagers at gunpoint and stole their dirt bikes. Police spokesman Det. Ruganzu Howard said the spouse of a police officer watched as the men held up the teens near the 2700 block Waterview Avenue. The teens ran away and swam across a drainage lake in the Westpoint neighborhood of south Baltimore to escape. Howard said police used a helicopter to help catch the men. Brandon Hall, 27, and Thomas Smothers, 24, were both arrested and charged with armed robbery.

County police arrested a Harundale woman Monday on charges that she ran up more than $2,500 worth of bogus credit card charges since August at the Glen Burnie Sears where she worked.Police said a loss-prevention manager at the store noticed the woman was buying an unusual amount of merchandise and gift certificates on credit and questioned her.The woman admitted she had been making unauthorized charges on the accounts of two customers since Aug. 14 because she had family problems, police said.

Baltimore County officials are looking into how other local governments regulate private late-night businesses after police arrested a Prince George's County man accused of shooting three people outside a Catonsville swingers club this weekend. County Executive Kevin Kamenetz asked Police Chief Jim Johnson to research rules elsewhere following the Sunday incident at Tabu Social Club, located in a shopping center on North Rolling Road, county spokeswoman Ellen Kobler said Tuesday.

A man with a gun in his waistband robbed an Edgewater convenience store Tuesday of an undisclosed amount, county police said.Pat Clark, a clerk at High's in the 100 block of Central Ave., told police a man in a gray hooded sweat shirt walked in about 9 a.m. and demanded money. Clark complied and the man left the store in a small white car, heading toward Davidsonville.Two teen-age boys on bicycles pushed a 75-year-old woman to the ground Tuesday along Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park and took her purse, county police said.

Police arrested an 8-year-old boy Monday afternoon and charged him as a juvenile in the vandalism and break-in at the Belle Grove Elementary School on Sunday evening, police said.The boy, the third juvenile charged in the incident, was issued a juvenile citation and released to his parents. He was arrested at 4 p.m. Monday.A 15-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy were arrested Sunday evening. They were also charged as juveniles and released, police said.Investigators said the 8-year-old's arrest closed the case.

2 charged in theftsWESTMINSTER -- On April 5, residents in the Middlebrooke and Washington Heights neighborhoods woke up to find their car windows shattered and their cars ransacked.Last Thursday, Westminster police arrested two juveniles and charged them with the malicious destruction of five automobiles and theft of items including stereos, tape cassettes, a radar detector and a wallet.An anonymous informant gave Westminster police tips about the incident, according to department spokesman Cpl. Richard May. Officer Michael E. Bubel investigated and was able to identify the suspects, May said.

A Prince George's County man has been arrested and charged in connection with the March 2013 targeted attack and killing of Davidsonville resident Nicole Burgess. On Monday, Anne Arundel County police announced the arrest of Terrence Robert Proctor, 37, of the 4100 block of Oliver Street, Hyattsville, on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter. The body of 37-year-old Nicole C. Burgess had been found on March 22, 2013, by officers who responded to the 3300 block of Royale Glen Court in Davidsonville for a report of a death.

A Maryland Shock Trauma Center technician was waiting for a bus home after work Sunday night when he was "used as a human shield" and killed during a gang shooting, Baltimore police said. Police said Tuesday that they have arrested two members of the Black Guerrilla Family in the death of Brandon Finney, a 25-year-old father who was saving up for his first car. The intended target - a Bloods gang member, Christopher Camphor, 20 - was also killed in the attack, police said. Finney's death drew dozens - some who barely knew him - for a vigil Tuesday night at the bus stop where he died at Saratoga and North Paca streets.

Anne Arundel County police have arrested a Severn man and charged him with theft in connection with cases in which a man allegedly scammed senior citizens out of hundreds of dollars. Police said that dating back to September 2013, detectives have investigated nine cases in which a man approached elderly citizens in public areas - typically near handicap parking spaces in shopping centers in Glen Burnie and Annapolis - and told them he locked himself out of his vehicle, leaving his wallet inside.

A man is listed in critical condition at local hospital after being stabbed at an Edgemere motel Thursday night, Baltimore County police said. About 10 p.m., police found found a man with multiple stab wounds to his middle and upper body at the Sparta Inn in the 6400 block of North Point Road. Police said the victim was stabbed during a fight with Herman Elbert Summers Jr. of who was taken into custody after he was found in the parking lot of the Sparta Inn. Summers, 60, of Sparrows Point was charged with attempted first degree murder and first degree assault.

Anne Arundel County police have arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery committed by people who claimed to be county police officers. Police said on Aug. 23 at about 10:30 p.m., four people were walking on a path in the area of Kent Road in the Glen Burnie area when they were stopped by two males who claimed to be Anne Arundel County officers. Neither of the suspects displayed items that would portray them as officers, but the suspects did show handguns and demanded property from the victims, according to police.

County police arrested a Laurel woman Thursday on charges that she tried to shoplift items from a Super Fresh store in the 1100 block of Annapolis Road and assaulted a store manager.Police were called to the store shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday. When an officer arrived, the woman walked up to him, confessed to stealing and asked to be arrested, police said.The store manager, who was trying to detain the woman for police, had a bite mark on his leg, a cut on his finger and blood on his clothes, officers said.

Two men arrested yesterday morning in connection with the armed robbery of a police dispatcher were wanted for allegedly stabbing an East Baltimore man during a robbery attempt Thanksgiving day.Both suspects have been charged with assault with intent to murder in connection with the Thanksgiving attack on Roosevelt Privette, 39, of the 1000 block of Abbott Court, who was stabbed in the head, chest and side.Police said Mr. Privette was attacked while sitting on a bench in the 1600 block of East Eager Street.

Police have charged a 26-year-old Baltimore man in the stabbing death of a coworker at the Popeye's fast-food restaurant in Brooklyn Park. Anne Arundel County Police charged Moises Gomez-Castillo, 26, of Baltimore, with first- and second-degree murder in the killing of Luzviminda Monreal, 47, of Laurel, at the restaurant on Richie Highway. Police believe Gomez-Castillo killed Monreal while attempting a robbery. "She, unfortunately, was the person in the way of him accomplishing that mission," said Anne Arundel Police spokesman Lt. T.J. Smith.
