Joseph W. McLeary, who served with the city Police Department, Maryland State Police and the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency during a more than four-decade career, died Sunday of a massive stroke at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He was 73. "Joe loved the state police, and he carried that into retirement," said state police spokesman Greg Shipley. "It was obvious that being a state police officer was something that never left him. He even still wore the state police haircut," he said.

County police are searching for two men who robbed an Odenton store Friday morning and drove off with the manager's car.Police spokesman V. Richard Molloy said two men followed the morning manager into the Odenton Variety Store, in the 1600 block of Route 175, and forced him at gunpoint to open the safe.After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, the men stole the manager's car, a 1990 Oldsmobile, and drove off. No one was injured.The first suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet 5, 130 pounds, of slim build who was wearing a blue blazer or windbreaker.

The infamous raid of The Block that brought more discredit to the state police than it did to Baltimore's seedy red-light district got a day of criticism in Baltimore Circuit Court yesterday, where two women are suing for false arrest and civil rights violations.Laura Beth Wolff, who had been a dancer, claims police never identified themselves when they barged into the Mouse Trap lounge with guns drawn Jan. 14, 1994, causing her to stumble down stairs and fracture her right ankle. She was never charged, and her injuries caused her to have a miscarriage three days later, she claimed.

County police have charged three Pasadena residents with possession with intent to distribute cocaine after investigators served a search warrant on their home early yesterday morning.Ty Lydell Jackson 28; Rosetta Ela Jackson, 23; and Joseph Lee Walker, 47, all of the 100 block Mountain Road, also were charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.The police said officers served the warrant at 4:20 a.m. and seized 8.5 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $850.STORE CLERK FOILS ROBBERY ATTEMPTThe robbery of an Edgewood convenience store was thwarted Monday when the clerk refused to hand over the money and began struggling with the robber.

MASKED MAN ROBS ROY'S CAR WASHA masked man armed with a gun robbed the Roy's Glen Burnie Car Wash on Wednesday.The police said the robber walked into the car wash in the 900 block of Crain Highway about 8 p.m. and forced the cashier into a rear storage room, took money from the cash register and left.The cashier escaped through a rear door and called police.The police said the robber was white, about 25, and he was wearing blue jeans and a light blue jacket.VA. MAN IS MUGGED OUTSIDE LAUREL MOTEL An Alexandria, Va., man was robbed Monday outside a motel in Laurel, county police said.

A gunman robbed the Payless Shoe Source in Glen Burnie Monday.Police said the man walked into the store in the first block of Mountain Road at about 9 p.m. and forced the clerk to open the safe.The clerk gave the robber a bag of money and he left the store.Police gave no description of the gunman.POLICE SEEK GUNMAN WHO ROBBED GROCERYCounty police are looking for the gunman who robbed aBrooklyn Park grocery store Wednesday.Police said the gunman walked into the Lebowitz Grocery store in the 300 block of Doris Avenue at 1 p.m. and put several candy bars on the counter.

A 26-year-old Glen Burnie woman was raped early yesterday morning, county police said.Police said the rapist entered the woman's apartment in the 400 block of Pamela Road at about 3:41 p.m. and dragged the woman into a bedroom.The man raped her and left the apartment. Police said the woman went to a neighbor's home and called the police.Police described the rapist only as a black male.ARMED ROBBER HITS PASADENA GAS STATIONA man with a gun robbed the Rock Creek Shell station in Pasadena early yesterday morning.

A Columbia man was arrested on a first-degree rape charge Thursday after citizens identified him through a composite sketch drawn by a police artist, county police said.Kenneth Wayne Cole, 28, of Twin Rivers Road was arrested at his home in connection with a rape July 7 at a home on Placid Lake Court.Two citizens at the Wilde Lake Village Center told police that the sketch, based on a description given by the rape victim, looked like Cole, police said.Witnesses who spotted the rapist leaving the victim's home positively identified Cole's photograph as the man theysaw, police said.

Police arrested 35 teen-agers Wednesday night during a beer-drinkingparty at a Severna Park home.All of the youths were charged withpossession of alcohol. A 16-year-old girl, who police say was the party's host, was charged with maintaining a disorderly house.Of the 35 arrested, 19 were charged as adults and 16 were chargedas juveniles.Officer Jim Campbell said in a report that he saw beer in virtually every room of the house, in the unit block of Severndale Road, when he arrived at about 11:30 p.m., responding to a complaint of a disorderly party.
