A man in a dark vehicle asked a 12-year-old boy walking in Ellicott City if he wanted a ride Wednesday, Howard County police said yesterday. The boy, who declined the ride, said he was walking near Centennial Lane and Tuscany Road, police said. Police are investigating an unrelated incident Saturday. An Ellicott City girl told police a man touched her inappropriately through her clothing as she was skating near Gray Rock Drive and Walt Mill Road.

DALLAS -- The stranger at Mike's nightclub seemed a daydream made flesh.To the men, rural Mexicans newly arrived seeking work, he had all they longed for: manly good looks, fine cowboy clothes, the confidence of a rich man. Unlike the other patrons, he didn't appear to be paying the woman beside him. He never even asked her to dance.Eyeing the light-skinned stranger from bar stools, the women hoped he'd ask them to dance. They liked the way he sipped soda instead of swilling beer. They noticed his wavy hair and his glinting green eyes.

County police arrested an Annapolis man Monday less than a mile from the Pasadena gas station he is suspected of robbing.Benjamin B. Janey, 30, of the 1400 block of Tyler Ave., was charged with robbery and theft.A clerk at Ed's Shell in the 100 block of Mountain Road told police a man walked into the station at about 2 a.m. and demanded money. The clerk complied and the man ran away, police said.A short time later, Officer Kenneth Edmonds spotted a man fitting the suspect's description a few blocks from the gas station, police said.

A man with a gun in his waistband robbed an Edgewater convenience store Tuesday of an undisclosed amount, county police said.Pat Clark, a clerk at High's in the 100 block of Central Ave., told police a man in a gray hooded sweat shirt walked in about 9 a.m. and demanded money. Clark complied and the man left the store in a small white car, heading toward Davidsonville.Two teen-age boys on bicycles pushed a 75-year-old woman to the ground Tuesday along Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park and took her purse, county police said.

County police arrested a Glen Burnie man Tuesday on drug charges after chasing him through an apartment complex into a stairwell.Shaun D. Joyce, 18, of the 400 block of Old Quarterfield Road, was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.Eastern District Officer Ross R. Passman was on patrol in the 7900 block of Nolpark Court in Glen Burnie shortly before 11 p.m. when he saw several men standing near a playground known for drug dealing, police said.When Passman stopped, two of the men ran, and he chased them, police said.

A man who implied he had a weapon robbed an Annapolis furniture store and its clerk of $90 Tuesday, county police said.The unidentified clerk at Jennifer Convertibles in the 2400 block of Solomon's Island Road told police a man walked into the store just after 8 p.m. and asked where the safe and the money were.The clerk told the man that there was no safe, but she gave him $10 from the petty cash container and $80 of her own money, police said. The woman told police that the man did not display a weapon but that he had his hand tucked inside his coat as if he were concealing one.The man ran through the back door into the woods behind the shopping center, police said.
