Old Mill senior pitcher Josh Hader walked the first batter he faced in yesterday's game against Severna Park. After that, Hader stepped off the mound, settled himself, concentrated on his release point and struck out the next three hitters. They were the first of 14 strikeouts as Hader used his 88-mph fastball and a tempting curve to secure a 4-0, no-hit shutoutagainst No. 8 Severna Park. The win gave No. 12 Old Mill a two-game lead among Anne Arundel County teams and improved the Patriots' record to 13-1.

Tonight, Dontrelle Willis will start a game for the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate, the Norfolk Tides. That in itself is news because Willis, the 2003 National League Rookie of the Year and 2005 NL Cy Young Award runner-up, left the Tides earlier this season because he wanted to start and wasn't given the opportunity. The 30-year-old Willis is back and is pitching against Toledo. But that is not the crazy part. What's crazy is this: Willis becomes the 17 th different pitcher to start a game for the Tides this year.

This award surely won't earn the centerpiece on Dylan Bundy's mantel, but the Orioles' top pitching prospect has earned the MiLBY Award as the fans' choice for minor league starting pitcher of the year in all of baseball. Miami Marlins prospect Jose Fernandez earned the vote of the writers at MiLB.com in results announced Tuesday . Bundy -- who pitched the first 33 innings of his career without allowing an earned run and quickly made his way up to Bowie, and then Baltimore -- earned 20 percent of the fans' votes to beat out Fernandez and 10 other nominees.
