DIANE PINDER of St. Michaels, departed this life on Monday, May 17, 2004 at Easton Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD. Services Friday, May 21st 11 A.M. at Gospel Tabernacle #5 (St. Michaels). Interment St. James Cemetery. The Henry Funeral Home, P.A. (Cambridge) is handling the arrangements.

The sight of sailboats skimming the waters of the Inner Harbor through the picture windows of the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park and Museum provided the perfect backdrop for the museum's Third Anniversary Dinner - and served as a reminder that one of the museum's namesakes, Isaac Myers, started the first African-American-owned shipyard in the United States. The anniversary wasn't the only thing to celebrate at the museum, a Living Classrooms Foundation affiliate. Living Classrooms President/CEO James Piper Bond explained that the evening would be full of tributes.

Earl Hopkins Pinder, clerk of the Circuit Court of Kent County for 28 years, died Wednesday at his home near Chestertown after a brief illness. He was 77.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Shrewsbury Episcopal Church in Kennedyville.native of Kent County, Mr. Pinder was a longtime activist in Republican Party politics at the state and regional levels.Mr. Pinder spent the early years of his career in the MarylanState Police, where he rose to the rank of first sergeant before leaving in the late 1940s.

BERTHA PINDER WOMEN'S CIVIC LEAGUE PRESIDENT Bertha Pinder, the Women's Civic League's 80-something president, wants everyone to know about the group's good deeds for the city. The league's main fundraiser is the Baltimore Apple Festival, held last week and co-sponsored by the city Department of Recreation and Parks. Proceeds help maintain the league's historic headquarters at 9 N. Front St. -- once the home of Thorowgood Smith, Baltimore's second mayor. The Women's Civic League also gives awards to city transportation and sanitation workers and provides $1,000 college scholarships to city youth.
