On Saturday, March 15, 2008, after a lengthy illness, GERTRUDE REBECCA WATTS, departed this life and was united with her family in heaven. She is survived by her daughters, The Honorable Shirley M. Watts and Pamela Pinder, sons-in-law, Neil E. Duke and Charles Pinder, granddaughters, Nina Rebecca Duke, Candace and Sharekia Pinder, nieces, Olivia Bannister and Cecilia Jones, and other family and friends. The family will receive friends at the Howell Funeral Home, 4600 Liberty Hgts. Ave. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 3 to 5 PM. The wake will be held on Monday, March 24, 2008, 10:30 AM. at The Church of St. Cecilia, Windsor Ave. and Hilton St., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 AM. Interment New Cathedral Cemetery immediately following the service.

On February 25, 2008, BERNICE WONGUS; mother of three daughters, Gwendiville Young, Wanda Ellington and Glenda Pinder (Edward); three sons, Carroll (Wiona), Cornell (Rubye) and Warren (Carolyn) Young; mother-in-law of Ethel Jackson Young all of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by sister, Florinda Cephas of Cleveland, OH; sister-in-law Goldie Young of Cambridge, MD; twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grand children, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the family owned MARCH FUNERAL HOME EAST, 1101 E. North Avenue on Wednesday after 4 P.M., with Family Hour on Thursday from 5 to 7:30 P.M. The family will also receive friends at Refuge Temple Church of God & Christ, 800 Robbins Street, Cambridge, MD, on Saturday at 9 A.M. Funeral services will follow at 11 A.M.

BERTHA PINDER WOMEN'S CIVIC LEAGUE PRESIDENT Bertha Pinder, the Women's Civic League's 80-something president, wants everyone to know about the group's good deeds for the city. The league's main fundraiser is the Baltimore Apple Festival, held last week and co-sponsored by the city Department of Recreation and Parks. Proceeds help maintain the league's historic headquarters at 9 N. Front St. -- once the home of Thorowgood Smith, Baltimore's second mayor. The Women's Civic League also gives awards to city transportation and sanitation workers and provides $1,000 college scholarships to city youth.
