John E. Pindell, a retired steel company supervisor and former Perry Hall resident, died in his sleep Thursday at a hospital in Conway, S.C. He was 78 and had lived in Santee, S.C. Mr. Pindell was born in Baltimore and raised in Essex and Middle River. He attended Baltimore County public schools. During the Korean War he enlisted in the Navy and served as a cook aboard the USS Fox. After being discharged, Mr. Pindell returned to Baltimore and earned his General Educational Development diploma, family members said.

On May 19, 2007, WILLIAM L. PINDELL died at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. He was born in Baltimore, MD August 6, 1937. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, 11 A.M. at Asbury U. M. Church, Charles Town, WV. Interment Edge Hill Cemetery. Visitation, Tuesday at the Melvin T. Strider Funeral Home from 6 to 9 P.M.

Rhonda Pindell-Charles of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools was trying to come up with a program that would help parents in the Annapolis area when she settled on a simple idea: combining sports and education. Pindell-Charles is a driving force behind "FamilyHood Scores!," a program that county schools developed in partnership with 14 county and city organizations and with businesses to help parents get more involved in their children's education while also playing basketball. The program, which serves the Annapolis area, takes place on Thursday nights.

Elizabeth Denison Pindell, a homemaker and former co-owner of a dairy business, died of respiratory failure Saturday at Mercy Ridge Retirement Community, where she had lived since 2003. She was 88. Elizabeth Hammond Cromwell Denison was born in Baltimore and raised at her family's Hill House Farm on York Road in Timonium. She was a 1936 graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School and made her debut at the Bachelors Cotillon that year. She owned a horse, Play 'Em, which she rode years ago to visit friends.

Plans to build a religious school in Lothian were dealt a serious blow when the Anne Arundel County Council passed a measure this week that severely limits development along nearly two dozen rural roads in the southern half of the county. County Council Chairman Edward R. Reilly, a Crofton Republican who represents South County, proposed designating 23 roads from Davidsonville to Bristol as scenic and historic to keep schools, country clubs, landfills and other facilities from being built in adjacent rural-agricultural districts.
