The Philadelphia Eagles were planning to wear a patch on their uniforms this year honoring their 60th anniversary season. Now, they'll wear a patch "J.B., 99" in honor of Jerome Brown, who died a week ago in an auto accident.Though Brown was loved by his teammates and friends, they couldn't curb his appetite for fast driving. At the funeral, former University of Miami teammate Alonzo Highsmith told an anecdote and -- probably inadvertently -- referred to Brown's driving habits: "He just piled us all in the back of a van, and we took off. You all know how Jerome drove."

What's new: Terry Allen, who leads the NFL in touchdowns with 17 and the NFC in rushing with 976 yards, didn't practice yesterday because of a right sprained ankle and there is a slight chance he may not play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles at Veterans Stadium. Allen isn't expected to practice again today and possibly may work lightly tomorrow, trainer Bubba Tyer said.Coach Norv Turner said, "We'll see where Terry is Friday. If he can't play, we'll use a combination of Steve Davis and Brian Mitchell in his place."

After fumbling the ball and causing many football fans to miss the opening snap in last Saturday's preseason opener at the Ravens' new stadium, the Mass Transit Administration announced yesterday some service enhancements it hopes will reduce demand on the light-rail system and win back fans' confidence.Beginning with the Ravens' third and final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 24 and continuing throughout the regular season, the MTA will express bus park-and-ride services from two additional sites.
