No coach leads his team into the playoffs amid more twists of fate than Perry Hall football coach Keith Robinson. First, the Gators needed a little help just to make the Class 4A North regional playoffs. After Hereford upset the Gators last week, 34-31 in overtime, they ended up with the fourth-seeded spot only because a Westminster forfeit eliminated the Owls. Now, in Friday night's semifinal at Poly, Robinson will face his mentor, Roger Wrenn, for the first time. As if that weren't enough, a Perry Hall win would mean that Robinson ends Wrenn's career, because the Engineers' coach will retire at the end of the season after 40 years of coaching in Baltimore City.

Baltimore County will preserve 38 acres of publicly owned forested land in Perry Hall, which officials say is the largest preservation of open green space in that community in more than a decade. The land will be protected from development and is at two locations: about 8 acres in western Perry Hall and nearly 30 acres north and south of Indian Rock Park. In an announcement of the land reclassification, County Councilman David Marks said he had worked with County Executive Kevin Kamenetz for the past year to preserve the land.

In the recent article "Perry Hall Shooter gets 35 Years" (Feb. 25) I ask myself, what was Judge Robert E. Cahill Jr. thinking? Trying a troubled 15-year-old boy who made a very bad choice as an adult instead of placing him in the juvenile court system where he would receive the psychiatric help he needs, is a total travesty of justice. Judge Robert Cahill is sending this child to adult prison for 35 years, which is far beyond the legal guidelines. I hope there is enough public outrage to appeal this unreasonable sentence.
