Dr. Ebrahim A. Gabbay, a Baltimore obstetrician-gynecologist whose career spanned 50 years and who was also a dedicated Francophile, died Saturday of complications from a stroke at Sinai Hospital. The longtime Pikesville resident was 86. "First of all, Albert loved his patients and was a superb doc and a top-notch surgeon. Technically, there was no one better," said Dr. Murray D. Pearlman, an OB-GYN who was a partner in Gabbay, Feldman and Pearlman. "The patients mattered to him. It was always personal.

After Phil Rizzuto died Monday night, we included in our modest tribute a couple of recordings of Rizzuto's. One was his call on Roger Maris' 61st home run. The other was his part in the rock classic Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf. There's a nifty story by Jeff Pearlman on ESPN.com about how the Rizzuto thing came together. A gem anecdote that has Phil written all over it was about how Rizzuto's agent, former Met Art Shamsky, wanted to clear up one matter before the Scooter agreed to do the studio work.

A jury in Baltimore Circuit Court awarded $588,000 yesterday to a Baltimore woman who sued her obstetrician for negligently delivering her child, costing the girl the use of her left arm.Danielle Hill-Woodley, 29, of the 2000 block of Richglen Drive in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore County, and her daughter Eulysia Hill were awarded the sum by a jury of three men and three women after a weeklong trial before Judge Ellen M. Heller.The jury deliberated for about two hours before finding that Dr. Murray D. Pearlman was negligent in his prenatal care of Hill-Woodley and his delivery of Eulysia at Sinai Hospital in Northwest Baltimore on Oct. 28, 1991.

Mickey Pearlman decided enough was enough after a series of 113 interviews with writers in The Paris Review included only 19 women."It incensed me," she said. While male writers were asked questions about memory, space and identity, Ms. Pearlman said, women were asked such questions as, "Do you have a country house and how are your children doing in school?"That anger prompted her to ask some questions of her own.Yesterday, at the Cover To Cover Bookstore Cafe in Columbia, she introduced her latest book, "Listen to Their Voices: Twenty Interviews with Women who Write."

A former radio executive said yesterday he has bought majority control of three Maryland-based farm teams of the Orioles. David Pearlman, president of Triple Play Partners LLC of Lexington, Mass., declined to say how much he paid to Comcast-Spectacor for the Double-A Bowie Baysox and the Single-A Frederick Keys and Delmarva Shorebirds. Triple Play Partners was started this year by Pearlman and partner Steve Horowitz. Pearlman, a former senior executive at Infinity Radio and co-founder of American Radio Systems, said the two plan to buy more minor league teams across the country.
