FREDERICK — Police in Frederick County say a Smithburg man has been charged with driving under the influence and other charges after his vehicle struck a Maryland State Police patrol car. Police say 19-year-old Robert John Gery hit the patrol car parked on Raven Rock Road near Fort Ritchie at just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday. The trooper driving the patrol car sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

A Baltimore County police officer pleaded guilty to misconduct and agreed to resign after admitting to filming himself numerous times engaging in sex acts and neglecting to respond to calls while on duty. Aaron Z. Pross, 29, who had been assigned to the Pikesville Precinct, took more than 120 images and 20 videos engaging in sexual acts with himself, including one where he masturbated inside his patrol car while reports of "possible guns involved," can be heard over a police radio, prosecutors said.

A Baltimore police officer was injured Sunday evening when his speeding patrol car, its siren blaring and its emergency lights flashing, crashed into a pickup truck on York Road in North Baltimore and flipped it onto its roof. Officers who went to the scene of the accident said it appeared to have occurred when the Ford pickup pulled out of a parking lot at 5438 York Road in front of the officer's white-and-blue Chevrolet Impala. The officer, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, possibly with a broken ankle or leg. Debris from both vehicles littered the road.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said a deputy was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma on Tuesday after his patrol car collided with another vehicle on Route 140 west of Westminster. Master Deputy Matthew Wilson, a five-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office, was traveling west on Route 140 near Mayberry Road at about 3:12 p.m. when his car collided with a Dodge RAM 1500 operated by Darian Barron, of Westminster, officials said. The sheriff's office said its initial investigation suggested Barron was making a left turn from Mayberry Road on to eastbound Route 140 when the crash occurred.

Biondo, 32, of the Southeastern District said that he left the car running when he stepped out about 1:30 a.m. to investigate an incident in front of an Eastern Avenue tavern, said Dennis S. Hill, a police spokesman.The officer was asked to investigate a fight at another bar farther down the block. After taking care of that, Officer Biondo said, he looked down the street to discover that someone had made off with his patrol car.The officer said that he immediately radioed in a report of the theft.

A Baltimore police officer was injured last night when the patrol car he was driving in West Baltimore crashed into the front of a rowhouse during the pursuit of car driven by a suspected drug offender, police said. Officer Walter Brown of the Central District was among other police officers pursuing the suspect in the 1400 block of Druid Hill Ave. about 10 p.m. when he collided with another police car at West Lafayette Avenue and careened into the house, causing minor damage to the dwelling and serious damage to the car. Brown sustained chest, neck, head and leg injuries.

A Baltimore County police officer was injured yesterday when his patrol car was struck by a car whose driver was charged with driving while intoxicated.Police said Officer Chuck Massey, a member of the force for nine years and assigned to the Wilkens Precinct, was responding to a minor traffic accident at the Beltway Motel in the 3600 block of Washington Blvd. about 2:20 a.m. and was slowing down to turn onto the motel parking lot when his vehicle was struck in the rear by a Chevrolet Cavalier.

A Baltimore police officer lost control of his patrol car yesterday and struck a pedestrian on a Reisterstown Road sidewalk near the Baltimore County border. Both were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where the officer was treated for a cut on his forehead and the man - whose name was not divulged - was in serious condition with internal injuries, police said. The officer, whose name also was withheld, was driving south in the 6100 block of Reisterstown Road in response to an armed robbery call about 2:40 p.m., police said.

An Annapolis police officer helping to keep out traffic as crews cleaned up a fallen tree and power lines was momentarily knocked unconscious yesterday evening when a wooden utility pole crashed onto the roof of his patrol car in a residential waterfront neighborhood. Although city Officer Carl Bouie, an eight-year veteran, did not appear seriously hurt, he was flown by MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore as a precaution, said police Lt. Timothy Seipp. He was reported in fair condition shortly after arrival there.

A Baltimore County police officer has been charged with malfeasance in office after detectives said he repeatedly engaged in and recorded sexual acts while on duty, including at least one video sent to a 16-year-old girl. Aaron Z. Pross, 29, of Newark, Del., who was assigned to the Pikesville Precinct, is being investigated by his agency and could face additional charges. Detectives said he took more than 120 images and 20 videos engaging in sexual acts with himself and an adult woman while he was working.

A Baltimore County police officer was injured after crashing a patrol car into a tree in Catonsville late Wednesday night, according to county police. Shortly before midnight, Officer Tia Bynum, 28, of Catonsville, was traveling westbound on Route 40 with her patrol vehicle's lights and sirens activated, responding to a call for assistance from another officer, said Louise Rogers-Feher, a police spokeswoman. As Bynum, a six-year veteran of the force, began entering the intersection of Route 40 and Coleridge Road against a red traffic light, another vehicle heading south on Coleridge which had a green light entered the intersection, Rogers-Feher said.

Minutes after being pulled over by a state trooper on the side of Interstate 95 in White Marsh this week, 23-year-old Bel Air resident Scott Kampes was slumped over in the driver's seat of the car he was driving — fatally wounded from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, according to Maryland State Police. Police said the shot, from a .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun found in Kampes' lap, was not heard by the two state troopers at the scene or by his uncle, who was also there.

Two state troopers were injured on the side of Interstate 95 in Laurel early Friday morning when their patrol car was struck by another vehicle being driven by a drunken driver, Maryland State Police said. Shortly after midnight, troopers Manuel Moreno, 42, and John Cabrera, 34, had just activated flares warning oncoming traffic of an unrelated accident on the highway near Sandy Springs Road when they returned to their patrol car - which had its lights flashing - to complete paperwork.

A 25-year-old Woodlawn woman has been charged with arson, assault and destruction of property after allegedly setting fire to her own home Saturday morning, then kicking out the window of a police patrol car and assaulting an officer after her arrest, according to Baltimore County Police. Police initially responded to the home of Ashley Joy Davis, in the 1600 block of Langford Road, about 5:44 a.m. for a report of a suicidal person, but upon an initial investigation determined a simple assault had occurred at the residence, said Cpl. John Wachter, a police spokesman.

Two Maryland Transportation Authority Police officers were injured while stopped by the side of Interstate 95 in Elkridge on Wednesday night, after their cars were struck by a motorist who has been charged with drunken driving. Sgt. Jonathan Green, a police spokesman, said an officer responded after a license plate reader at the southbound Fort McHenry Tunnel put out a stolen-vehicle alert for a car with Virginia tags. He said an officer made a traffic stop of a 2007 Ford Taurus near the Route 100 interchange and was soon joined by a corporal.

Two Maryland Transportation Authority police officers were struck by a vehicle on the side of Interstate 95 in Howard County during a traffic stop about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to Maryland State Police and an MdTA official. The officers were conducting a traffic stop on a suspected stolen vehicle when another oncoming vehicle either hit the officers directly or hit their patrol car and forced it into them, police and MdTA officials said. One officer suffered a fractured leg, said Derek Nunez, a MdTA operations technician fielding questions on the incident late Wednesday.

After decades of sporting green and white markings, the patrol cars driven by officers from the Bel Air Police Department are now sleek black. "We felt it was time to move forward a little bit," Deputy Chief Rick Peschek said when asked about the new look, adding the change will be like day and night. Black is a power color. A few years back, a fear in the conspiracy theory community was that a shadow government with a legion of black helicopters would soon be taking over. Then there are those black Secret Service vehicles with black tinted windows that show up in the strangest places when a high ranking official is visiting.
