Four people were being treated for injuries or chest pains today after a two-alarm fire that destroyed a two-story brick rowhouse in the 2400 block of W. Baltimore St.Chester Jacobs, 17, was in University of Maryland Medical Center with burns on his arms after he jumped from a second-floor window.Four other people in the house escaped uninjured, but two firefighters sustained minor neck burns when they rushed into the flames after being told people were trapped inside. They were being treated at the Fire Department infirmary.

The University of Maryland's Jim Guzzio advanced, but three other wrestlers with local ties were defeated yesterday in the preliminary round at the NCAA wrestling championships in Minneapolis.Guzzio, at 134 pounds, defeated Adam Mickiewicz of Virginia Military Institute, 4-1, to advance to the second round. But teammates Patrick Flynn (Annapolis) and Shane Mack each lost in the opening round, at 158 and 142 pounds, respectively.And Coppin State junior Keno Brown (190) led 12th seed Rob Neidlinger of Penn State 9-1 before losing, 14-12, in overtime.

Lee Ann Lezzer, daughter of Leo and Patricia Lezzer of Millersville, MD, and Christopher Richardson, son of Wayne and Mary Ann Richardson of West Collingswood, NJ, were married on September 3, 2005. The wedding took place at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis, MD, with Father Patrick Flynn officiating. The reception was held at the Historic Inns Calvert House in Annapolis. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride was attended by Alicia Sievert as her maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Robyn Shaw, Katie Dell, and Melissa Ellwanger.

Seven people were sent to area hospitals today after the collision of a Mass Transit Administration bus and a car at Cathedral and Preston streets near Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.Fire Department spokesman Capt. Patrick P. Flynn said four city ambulances were used to transport the injured. One victim was taken to the Shock-Trauma Unit in Baltimore; another to University of Maryland Medical Center; three to Maryland General Hospital; and two to Union Memorial Hospital.

Western High School, 4600 Falls Road, was closed today after a deliberately set fire sent heavy smoke through the building.Capt. Patrick P. Flynn, spokesman for the city Fire Department, said the fire, ruled an arson, broke out in the basement janitorial supply room about 5:20 a.m.Wooden shelves and janitorial supplies, including cardboard boxes, were burned. Flynn said fire damage, which was confined to the supply room, was estimated at $15,000. The fire was declared under control about 6 a.m.

A three-alarm fire early today extensively damaged a vacant house in the 3100 block of Clifton Ave., in the Walbrook section, that was undergoing renovation, a Fire Department spokesman said.No injuries were reported among the 60 firefighters manning 29 pieces of equipment at the fire.Capt. Patrick Flynn, the spokesman, said the fire was reported at 3:23 a.m. and that additional alarms were pulled at 3:28 a.m. and 3:31 a.m.Flynn said the fire is being investigated.He said the fire destroyed the rear of the three-story dwelling and burned through the roof.

The wife of a retired minister was in critical and unstable condition today after she was overcome by smoke in a fire that claimed the life of her husband, a spokeswoman at the Shock-Trauma Unit in Baltimore said.The four-alarm fire destroyed the couple's basement apartment in the former Frederick Douglass High School in West Baltimore.Sally Page, in her 80s, was overcome by smoke that filled the apartment and killed her husband, the Rev. Oliver Page, also in his 80s.Capt. Patrick Flynn, a Fire Department spokesman, said the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring in a bedroom baseboard that set a bed on fire.

A 72-year-old man died early today when a one-alarm fire burned through two apartments in a West Baltimore rowhouse.Charles Conway, of the 1400 block of N. Fulton Ave., was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 5 a.m., according to city Fire Department spokesman Capt. Patrick Flynn.Conway had suffered smoke inhalation and burns on his legs.Flynn said Conway's body was found on a sofa in his second-floor apartment. He had draped a blanket over his head to protect himself from the thick smokeFlynn said Tony Holly, 34, a resident of the first-floor apartment in Conway's building, awakened the elderly man about 5:10 a.m. after he noticed his apartment was on fire.
