Former County Executive Robert Pascal has endorsed state Sen. Philip C.Jimeno, D-Brooklyn Park, in a close race for the District 31 Senate seat.Jimeno is vying with Delegate John R. Leopold, R-Pasadena, for the seat.Pascal, a Republican, served two terms as county executive, leaving office in 1982. He currently works as appointments secretary to Democratic Gov. William Donald Schaefer.In a letter to District 31 residents, Pascal said that Jimeno "has impressed me as a man of integrity and dedication.

On November 17, 2006, NADINE P. PEER of Denton, MD, 91 years, beloved wife of the late Gerald Wilton Peer, beloved mother of Nancy Van Ells of Denton, member of the Church of the Messiah, Baltimore. Also survived by four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by two brothers, Freeman Pascal and John Pascal and two sisters, Catherine Stickley and Elizabeth Haddaway. Funeral services are private. Orientation is Friday for outdoor walking, cycling and tennis Pascal Senior Center in Glen Burnie will begin its outdoor exercise and sports activities at 8:30 a.m. Friday with orientation for Pascal Pacers walking and Pascal Pedalers cycling programs. Walkers will meet on the back patio of the center at 125 Dorsey Road, where there will be refreshments and distribution of registration and mileage cards. Last year, about 40 walkers logged 3,215 miles. Walkers will be using the trails at Sawmill Creek Park adjacent to the center, and will receive a map of the walking course.

Edith Crawford Cooper, 94, born in Roland ParkEdith Crawford Cooper, a homemaker and former Roland Park resident, died in her sleep Sunday at the Hermitage Retirement Community in Solomons. She was 94.Mrs. Cooper, who moved to the Calvert County retirement community last year, lived in Roland Park and Phoenix, Baltimore County, for many years.The former Edith Gantz, was born in Roland Park, graduated from Roland Park Country School in 1921 and attended Wellesley College.She was a communicant of St. David Episcopal Church and a member of the Woman's Club of Roland Park.

A top aide in the Schaefer administration said yesterday that he is no longer a candidate for two state jobs to which he was recently appointed.Robert A. Pascal, a former Anne Arundel County executive who was in charge of Gov. William Donald Schaefer's executive appointments, said he is unhappy that his and dozens of other appointments made in the final weeks of Mr. Schaefer's term are being viewed as improper.He said he has sent a letter to Gov. Parris N. Glendening asking that his name be withdrawn from appointment to the Maryland Stadium Authority and the State Roads Commission.

Volunteers Ned Church and Howard Smith each sat at their adding machines in the Pascal Senior Center for more than 100 hours last year, helping other seniors prepare their income taxes.Beginning Jan. 28 and running through March, the five county senior centers will team up with the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and repeat this free service to seniors aged 55 and older."It's a rewarding feeling to help seniors with their taxes," said62-year-old Glen Burnie resident Bill Ferguson, who will be volunteering for a 10th year at the Pascal center.

The volunteer: Valerie Watts is one of several volunteers at Pascal Senior Center in Glen Burnie who help seniors prepare their income taxes as part of the county's Volunteers In Tax Assistance (VITA) program.A native of England, Mrs. Watts came to the United States in 1965 just to "see a bit of America," but she met the man she married and has lived in Glen Burnie with her husband, Ralph, since 1967.Working with numbers and forms is nothing new to Mrs. Watts. She worked as a bookkeeper for three years with Maryland Fiber Corp.
