Officials are blaming a house fire in Pasadena Tuesday night on a portable space heater being too close to combustible furnishings. Firefighters called to a house in the 800 block of Old Mill Road shortly at 9:06 p.m. arrived seven minutes later to find heavy fire in a second-floor bedroom above a garage, Anne Arundel County Battalion Chief Steve Thompson said. No one was injured in the fire, he said. Twenty-nine firefighters brought the blaze under control by 9:42 p.m. Thompson said it appeared that a portable space heater was close to a bed and curtain.

Anne Arundel County police have charged a 30-year-old Baltimore resident with attempted murder in an incident that occurred early Monday in Pasadena. Raymond Gene Adkins, of the 600 block Ponca Street in East Baltimore, also faces assault charges and is being held at the county detention center. Officers, responding to a 1 a.m. call, found the victim on the front porch of a residence in the 700 block of Duvall Highway. The man was suffering from two stab wounds to his upper body.

A pit bull attacked a 9-year-old child Wednesday night in Pasadena as the boy played on his bike, police said. The child was with his mother who was visiting a neighbor in the 200 block of Armstrong Lane around 8:18 p.m. when the dog bit the boy on his lower leg. The child was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said the dog's owner was able to get the animal away from the child. Animal Control officers took the dog into custody. An investigation continues.

Anne Arundel County police are looking for about a dozen young men involved in a shooting of a 50-year old man Saturday afternoon in Pasadena, officials said. Officers responding to a report of a shooting at the 7800 block of Levy Court at approximately 3:01 p.m., said they found a 50-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim said he was walking from his car and toward the building when he heard several shots, the last of which struck him in the abdomen.

A 35-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a car in Pasadena shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday, officials said. Anne Arundel County police identified the woman as Karla Nicole Wilson, 31, of Mayfield Avenue in Baltimore. She was struck near the intersection of Fort Smallwood and Pittman roads and was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie with life-threatening injuries, Anne Arundel County Division Chief Keith Swindle said. Police later identified the driver of the car as Jacqueline Nichole Bowers, 28, of Pasadena.

The National Weather Service confirmed Friday that a tornado passed through the Lake Shore neighborhood east of Pasadena in Anne Arundel County during Thursday's storm. Officials at the National Weather Service said the tornado reached maximum winds of 80 mph, with a path as wide as 200 yards and as wide as one mile long, passing within a half mile of Chesapeake High, Chesapeake Middle and Bodkin Elementary schools. The tornado formed at about 9:46 p.m. over Cornfield Creek, knocking a sailboat on its side and then moving toward Milburn Circle in Lake Shore, where it knocked down several trees.

Rescue crews spent nearly an hour Friday freeing a 15-year-old boy from waist-deep mud in Pasadena, officials said. The teen was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious, but not life threatening injuries, said Anne Arundel County Fire Department Capt. Michael Pfaltzgraff. It wasn't immediately clear how the teen ended up in the mud near Water Oak Point and Old Water Oak Point roads, he said. Crews were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. A technical rope rescue using wood planks was used to free the teen.

A man was stabbed Sunday afternoon in Pasadena, but his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. The stabbing occurred about 4:30 p.m. near 62 Bar Harbor Road, which is close to Rock Creek Park. The victim was being treated for his injuries at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Police Department said he is expected to survive. A teenager told Anne Arundel County police that he was shot Wednesday night on the steps of a Pasadena home by a stranger. The 19-year-old said he was sitting on the steps of a home in the 800 block of Levy Court about 10 p.m. when a man with a handgun approached, shot him and ran away, police said. The victim had wounds to an arm and leg, according to police. He was taken by the county Fire Department to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.
