BWI Business Networking Fair set for Oct. 21 The seventh annual BWI Business Networking Fair is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the BWI Marriott Hotel on West Nursery Road, Linthicum. The event is an opportunity for small and minority-owned businesses to network with contractors and subcontractors doing work at Baltimore-Washington International Airport. The theme for the fair, "Changing Environment, New Opportunities," reflects the world of aviation since 9/11 and the continuing growth of BWI despite the downturn in air travel nationwide.

The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce is holding a fall general membership luncheon at noon Sept. 16 at the Blue Channel Inn on College Parkway.The guest speaker is 33rd District Republican Del. John G. Gary, who will speak about "The importance of knowing your candidates and the value of the business vote in the next election."The chamber, begun in 1957, now represents more than 150 members, including businesses from Severna Park, Millersville, Arnold and Pasadena.The chamber provides members with information about local and state issues, such as legislation affecting business and service industries.

Names in the newsLinda S. Zahn, executive director of the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce, recently received a full scholarship from the Maryland Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives to attend her fourth year of Institute of Organization Management at the University of Delaware this summer. The program provides chamber executives with professional development, and is a six-year program offered at campuses throughout the United States. Information: 410-647-3900.Maureen Carr of Millersville has been named by the North Arundel Hospital Foundation to serve as chairwoman of the 1998 Gala.

Anne Arundel County Councilman Cliff Roop collapsed and died of a heart attack Monday night, minutes after stepping out of a meeting and discussion on zoning amendments. The Severna Park Republican was 45. The owner of the Colony 7 Shell Service Station, Roop was active in the Republican Party, neighborhood groups and coaching youth athletics before his election to the County Council in November 1998. From his constituents in the 5th District to his two daughters, Roop devoted his life to making theirs better, friends and colleagues said yesterday.

Judicial candidates to meet in forum A forum for the eight candidates running for Anne Arundel County Circuit Court judge will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Anne Arundel County Community College in Arnold. Three sitting judges appointed in 2002 and five lawyers are on the March 2 ballot, seeking election to 15-year terms. The forum will be in Room 219 of the Cade Building. It is being sponsored by the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Severna Park Council and the college.

Hammond S. "Skip" Carr, senior vice president of O'Conor, Piper and Flynn Realty of Severna Park, has been named general chairman of the YMCA Annual Support Partner With Youth Campaign for 1994.Mr. Carr, a longtime leader in the Anne Arundel business community and a YMCA executive committee member, has agreed to head a team of 40 volunteers for the campaign this month.A Round Bay resident, Mr. Carr is a member and past president of the Severna Park Chamber of Commerce; a member and past president of the Maryland Association of Realtors and past president of the Severn School Trustees.

The publication, a product of Marcom Marketing and Communications, lists telephone numbers and information about community, recreational and educational events in Anne Arundel County.
