Three of the five performances featured in the 1997-1998 concert series of the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum showcase local talent."PAAL has from the beginning striven to present local talent," said incoming association President Jo Barker.The series begins Sunday with an Annapolis Opera production. A narrator will weave a "love won and lost" theme that will be illustrated by favorite arias from such composers as Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Offenbach.Sopranos Laura Vicari and Marcia Platt Treece, tenor George Aud and baritone Stevin Goodman will sing.

If folk music, classical piano, ethnic dance, fine singing and Dixieland jazz appeal to you, the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum is going to be just the ticket next season.The estimable North County arts series, now in its 14th year, has put together a colorful, diverse slate of cultural events for the 1995-1996 concert season.PAAL's season begins Sept. 30 with a free public concert by the Naval Academy Wind Ensemble, the area's premier band.The folk idiom is explored Nov. 18 with an appearance by Ann Zimmerman, a singer from Manhattan, Kan. She will perform an eclectic mix of original songs, hits from the 1930s and 1940s, pop favorites and folk classics.

On Saturday, the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum will present the next concert in its 1994-1995 season. The Warsaw Wind Quintet with Michiko Otaki, pianist, will perform on the stage of the new North County High School auditorium at 8 p.m.The quintet was formed in Warsaw, Poland, in 1973 by major soloists from the National Philharmonic and Radio Orchestras. They have played in the former Soviet Union and throughout Europe. The quintet regularly records for the Polish RTV and West Berlin Radio.

PAAL, the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum, has announced the concert schedule for its upcoming season.Performers include the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra on Sept. 26; the Veloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble on Nov. 21; acclaimed local pianist Doug Keegan on Feb. 27; and the Barry Dove Jazz Sextet on March 27.The concerts will begin at 8 p.m. at North County High School.The final concert of the season is a favorite of PAAL subscribers -- the Edinburgh Quartet. The quartet will perform at 6 p.m. May 2 at the Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church.

The Linthicum-Ferndale column in yesterday's paper listed the wrong date for the removal of trash containers from the Linthicum Park parking lot. The Performing Arts Association of Linthicum announces the next concert in its 10th anniversary season.Clive Swansbourne, an extraordinary pianist from England, will bring his artistry to the North County High School stage at 8 p.m. on Saturday.Swansbourne is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and joined the music faculty of Idaho State University in 1990. He has won thetop prize in many major competitions, including the Maryland International, the Artists International Auditions in New York and the Concerts Atlantique International Competition.

The people of North County have no shortage of music in their lives,because they have Eloise Vaughan.For the last 10 years, this 62-year-old grandmother from Linthicum has worked more hours than she can count to bring symphonies, choirs, dance troupes, ragtime ensemblesand concert pianists to the area.In 1981, at the urging of two Andover High School art teachers who saw no reason why Annapolis should have a monopoly on culture, Vaughan founded the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum.
