Disabled vehicles were blocking traffic on I-95 northbound near the split between I-95 and I-895 in Baltimore City and on I-795 north near Route 140 in Baltimore County. Northbound and southbound lanes were closed on Route 648 at Ullman Road in Anne Arundel County, due to an early morning accident involving two vehicles.

A woman was killed yesterday afternoon after she lost control of her 1999 Jeep Cherokee on the outer loop of the Baltimore Beltway near Security Boulevard, state police said. Police identified the driver as Deborah Neumann but declined to release her age or address. Police said Neumann's Jeep veered off Interstate 695 about 4:30 p.m. just before the Security Boulevard exit at Woodlawn in Baltimore County. The vehicle went down an embankment and rolled several times before striking a utility pole and coming to a stop, police said.

As if Baltimore's Beltway weren't loopy enough.Over the past two months, state highway crews have erected a dozen signs under selected Interstate 695 route markers with the designation of "Inner Loop" or "Outer Loop."The signs are supposed to help motorists figure out which way they're headed on the busy interstate. The inner loop designates the interior circle of the divided highway, the outer loop the outside half.But, after posting the signs, the State Highway Administration began to realize that a lot of drivers don't understand what the heck this inner and outer loop stuff means.

A pileup involving eight vehicles on Interstate 695 in Catonsville Sunday morning sent six people to area hospitals, including a state trooper, and blocked outer loop Beltway traffic for about 30 minutes, Maryland state police said. One of the injured was a woman who had left her vehicle to check on an initial crash and was then pinned by her vehicle after it was hit, said Cpl. Tom Heath of the Golden Ring barracks. Two people were transported to the University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center, state police said.
