The fact that Shane McMahon was booked stronger than a 13-time world champion notwithstanding, Randy Orton's beat-down of Triple H on SmackDown Friday built anticipation for their match at WrestleMania. ( For more, go to baltimoresun.com/ringposts)

In a backstage segment on WWE Raw on Monday night, John Cena said something fairly interesting, something that might simultaneously excite and infuriate fans. Cena acknowledged that the fans were calling for change, and that the company would be changing with the WWE Network. He talked about the fans chanting for Daniel Bryan and some of the other young wrestlers. He then said that the future of the WWE would be determined by Cena's match with Randy Orton in the main event. Cena said that his feud with Orton would finish that night, and whoever wanted to step up would have to go through him. Now, it was good that he acknowledged the fans chanting and wanting change.

I'm sure we all had preconceived notions about what would happen when Mr. McMahon returned to TV, but I never expected him to get kicked in the head by Randy Orton and carted off on a stretcher. ( For more, go to baltimoresun.com/ringposts)

Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan put on a terrific match to end WWE Raw on Monday night, and it ended in a disqualification. John Cena, who earlier insisted that Bryan get the nod as challenger to Orton's title, came to make the save, but the show ended with Orton standing tall, holding both championships. This creates an interesting bottleneck for the WWE championship -- Cena seemingly will get another match at some point, and Bryan is back in the hunt. With the Royal Rumble looming, and only one main championship for winner to seek, you have to wonder how the scenario will play out. Another thing to consider -- if Bryan or Cena doesn't win the Royal Rumble and battle for the WWE title, a perfect candidate to face a villain unified champion is Chris Jericho, who himself unified the titles in 2001.

A lot of the bad guys of pro wrestling aren't really bad guys at all. They just play them on TV. World Wrestling Entertainment champion Randy Orton, however, says the arrogant jerk that he portrays on WWE television shows has never been that much of a stretch for him. "I'd say there's a lot of me in that character," says Orton, one of the top stars in the scripted genre known as sports entertainment. "I've always kind of been to myself. I wouldn't say I'm a complete [jerk] in real life, but on the show I just turn the volume up."

As if the three comely young witches with penchants for tight clothing weren't enough to lure mortal viewers to WB's Charmed ... Tonight, the show's producers have tossed in yet another incentive to tune in at 8 p.m. -- Beth Orton, the British singer whose soulful, smoky voice and tender, pensive songs have captivated some of the best critics in the country. Last year, this Indie-pop princess released her third album, Daybreaker, to rave reviews, and the folk-electronica work struck such a chord it made several year-end top-10 album lists -- including that of the New York Times' Jon Pareles.

It was a scene we have (sort of) seen before: John Cena and Randy Orton, face to face, two champions in the ring. We have seen John Cena and Randy Orton square off. We have seen John Cena, as champion, stare down another champion (CM Punk). Where this will lead is the big question. Among many in the WWE fan base there has been discussion of title unification -- the World Heavyweight title today feels more like the Intercontinental title of 20 years ago, as opposed to a major championship equal to the WWE title.

With Sunday night's pay-per-view Hell in a Cell 2013 at American Airlines Arena in Miami inching closer, Ring Posts blogger Arda Ocal offers his predictions. WWE TITLE: RANDY ORTON VS. DANIEL BRYAN Certainly a big focus of this match will be Shawn Michaels as guest referee. Will he align himself with Triple H/Randy Orton, or will he call it down the middle? Unless we foresee The Heartbreak Kid being involved with WWE regularly - in which case, a Triple H reunion makes sense - I see this one being called down the middle and Daniel Bryan finally getting his hands on the title for longer than a day. WWE thrives on moments, and this scenario lends itself to Shawn Michaels celebrating with Daniel Bryan postmatch.

Money in the Bank has become a destination pay-per-view for WWE fans, mostly because of how much can happen in both MITB matches. Much like the Royal Rumble match, MITB has multiple participants, lays out upcoming rivalries and reveals the winner of a big stake. Last night's event was no different. The last image was Randy Orton standing tall, holding the Raw MITB briefcase. During the match, Paul Heyman turned on CM Punk, furthering along the highly anticipated Punk vs. Brock Lesnar tilt at Summerslam.

Friday night's Smackdown left me with one major question: Why did I just watch Wade Barrett face Randy Orton? That's not necessarily a complaint, as I enjoy watching these two share the squared circle, but it's a match we've seen twice on television in the past two weeks. And it was nothing new. The ending of the match may have been the most disturbing part. In their first encounter, Barrett won because of interference from Alberto Del Rio. In the rematch, Orton got his win back.

The card for next month's No Way Out pay-per-view continued to take shape after Friday night's episode of Smackdown, but recent events have parts of the show left with question marks. Alberto Del Rio defeated Randy Orton and Kane in a triple threat match to be crowned the No. 1 contender to the Sheamus' World Heavyweight Championship. But it is the other two participants in that match that are at the center of the most interesting scenarios leading into the next PPV event.

The weeks following WrestleMania have traditionally been a time when WWE calls up talent from developmental, giving them a chance on the main roster. This year has proven to be no different, though not all of this week's debuts were superstars new to the main brands. Lord Tensai , a returning A-Train with a new gimmick, returned on Raw, while former Nexus member Skip Sheffield made his comeback on Smackdown, repackaged as Ryback . Damien Sandow , who has been talked about as a standout in WWE's developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling, also made his debut, albeit in the form of a pre-recorded promo.

Injury. Those six letters can be devastating to the career of any professional wrestling superstar, especially during the build-up to the biggest show of the year. In recent months, several of WWE's top stars have been sidelined with injuries of varying degrees. Christian, Rey Mysterio, Alberto del Rio, Sin Cara and Layla have all missed weeks -- if not months -- of action. Others like Mark Henry, Big Show and Ted DiBiase, who has been wrestling in a cast and brace, have been working despite injuries.
