The pitch proved successful. And as the Orioles continued to win, sweeping the Detroit Tigers in the American League Division Series, team officials expanded the program, offering more guaranteed games for buyers of larger season ticket packages.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox might be tough on the Orioles on the field, but they've been terrific at the box office. So to apparently cash in on the popularity of their fiercest rivals, the Orioles are charging extra for single-game tickets to all games this season against the Yankees as well as weekend dates with the Red Sox and Opening Day against the Detroit Tigers. According to the Orioles' Web site, 16 games - called "prime single games" - will be affected. Most single-game tickets for those dates cost from $1 to $10 more, depending on ballpark location, compared with regular games.

Orioles fans have another reason to cheer for Chris Davis to win tonight's  Home Run Derby. For every home run Davis hits, the Orioles will discount $1 for all field level tickets for the team's games July 30-Aug. 1 against the Astros and Aug. 2-Aug. 4 against the Mariners. Field level tickets include field box (regularly $55-60), lower box ($45) and left field lower box ($30). The Orioles fulfilled an 11-month-old promise yesterday when they announced a ticket-exchange system that should be a boon to fans who come to the ballpark hoping to dispose of extra seats to upcoming games.Starting Monday, those fans can go to a designated reselling zone at Camden Yards. Within the zone -- but on no other public street within a mile of Camden Yards -- they legally can resell their tickets for the price printed on them.Ticket scalping, reselling for more than a ticket's face value, is illegal in Baltimore.
