Judging from the reaction on Twitter to the Orioles' trade of Robert Andino to the Mariners on Tuesday, many O's fans have a heavy heart over the infielder's departure. Andino will be forever etched in Baltimore baseball lore for getting the game-winning hit in the Orioles' Game 162 win in 2011 over the Red Sox. The game was later nicknamed the “Curse of the Andino” since it played a huge part in Boston missing the postseason. Many fans point to that game as a tonesetter to the team's success this past season.

The Orioles' improbable run to the postseason wasn't enough to earn Buck Showalter the American League Manager of the Year Award. Up until Tuesday evening's announcement on the MLB Network, the race between Showalter and Oakland A's manager Bob Melvin for the AL's top manager of 2012 seemed too close to call. Both were equally deserving and both led their teams to storybook seasons that captivated baseball. The award was decided by a mere couple of votes, Melvin beat Showalter in a vote of 28 AL market Baseball Writers' Association of America voters.

How cold will it be Saturday night, when the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants meet in the Motor City for Game 3 of the World Series? Forty-three degrees, with temperatures dipping into the upper 30s by game's end, predicts meteorologist Jim Madaus, of CBS 62 in Detroit. "The [football] Lions have it better," Madaus said. "They play indoors. " The 1979 Orioles had it worse. It was a wintry 41 degrees at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 10 as they played host to the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 1 of the World Series - and downright frosty some 3 hours and 18 minutes later, after what was then the longest night game in the history of the Fall Classic.

In his brief comments to the media following the Orioles' ALDS Game 5 loss to the Yankees in New York, club managing partner Peter Angelos opened the door to the idea of a contract extension for manager Buck Showalter. “If they're interested in staying,” Angelos said of Showalter and executive vice president Dan Duquette, “nobody's more interested in keeping him than I am. And certainly I speak for everyone in the organization.” Showalter's contract runs through the end of the 2013 season, but speaking with reporters on Saturday, he indicated he was fine with the status of his deal.
