The rain would not come for another hour, so Hall of Famer Eddie Murray had to settle for bathing in the affection of his close friends and the large gathering of fans who crowded into Legends Park to see his statue unveiled on Saturday. Maybe time does heal all wounds. There was no hint of the unhappiness that led to Murray asking out of Baltimore in the prime of his career. There was nothing during the either unveiling ceremony or the rain-delayed on-field presentation to indicate that there was any interruption in the honeymoon between "Ed-die!

Designated hitter Jim Thome , who originally thought he'd be out just a few days with neck spasms, will now be lost at least until September with a herniated disk in his neck. The 41-year-old Thome said doctors told him after an epidural late last week that he won't be able to resume baseball activities for 30 days - which puts his return to the Orioles until after rosters are expanded on Sept. 1. Thome said he'll continue to do his daily exercises for his lower-back issues, and, therefore, will hopefully be ready to start swinging once given the OK. "With injuries, I don't try to put a date because that can always change for the plus and minus sides.

Johnny Damon returned to Baltimore to haunt the Orioles again Thursday night. And after the 17-year veteran did so, he wondered aloud why the Orioles didn't want him to play at Camden Yards -- a place he's made his personal playground  -- on a regular basis. Damon's three-run homer off Wei-Yin Chenin the second-inning proved to be all Cleveland needed in the Orioles' 7-2 loss to the Indians on Thursday. But Orioles fans are used to Damon's success in Baltimore. It was Damon's 22 nd career homer at Camden Yards, most of any visiting ballpark. He is a lifetime .313 (149-for-476)

The excitement that filled Camden Yards this weekend for the Orioles' three-game series against the Nationals didn't go unnoticed by Orioles players. They didn't see the crowded Oriole Park concourse full of orange and red - mostly orange - or get a good look at the rows of standing-room fans in the flag court and behind the bullpens. But the Orioles could definitely feel it. “I'm not going to jinx neither of us, but this was like a playoff atmosphere, every game,” Orioles center fielder Adam Jones said.

June 25, 1997: For the second time in 27 days, the Orioles' Mike Mussina (9-2) flirts with a no-hitter before surrendering an eighth-inning single in a 9-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Earlier, in a 3-0 win over the Cleveland Indians, he had carried a perfect-game bid into the ninth before allowing a hit. "I took a run at it. It didn't happen, again," Mussina said afterward. "Maybe I'll get another chance. " June 26, 1978: The Orioles set a record for futility with a 24-10 loss at Toronto.
