A poster of the Ten Commandments stands behind the mailbox outside the Harford County home of Samuel and Donna Merryman, and a hand-painted sign on the front of the house reads, "Pray and Trust in God." The couple -- both Sunday school teachers -- are on home detention, freed from jail Monday on $50,000 property bonds after being charged with manslaughter, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, and reckless endangerment. An autopsy report says their adopted 8-year-old Russian-born son, the youngest of seven children they were raising and home-schooling, died in January of starvation -- a finding disputed yesterday by Samuel Merryman's mother, who called the charges "totally false" and maintained that young Dennis Merryman's death was the result of one of his many ailments.

All You Need Is Love" serves as the theme song for Imagine That the way "It Only Takes a Moment" did for Wall-E. When driven financial analyst Evan Danielson (Eddie Murphy) uses it to teach his 7-year-old daughter Olivia (Yara Shahidi) how to carry a tune, the scene sums up what director Karey Kirkpatrick thinks fathers and kids should do together: not act in perfect harmony, but raise a joyful noise. The movie is, in one way, bracingly old-fashioned. Although it pivots on Olivia's private fantasy world, complete with queen, princesses and fire-breathing dragon, this is one family film that abjures special effects.

The idea came during a round of drinks on a cruise. Rosie Jones pondered a bit, then decided it was time. "I'm ready to do this," the LPGA golfer said. "This is a great opportunity." Jones was on an Olivia cruise. The travel company caters to gay clients, and Jones was preparing to tell the world she is a lesbian. She shared that on the ship with Judy Dlugacz, Olivia's founder. Before Dlugacz could pick up the bar tab, they'd struck a historic deal. Beginning with this week's Kraft Nabisco Championship, Jones will wear her sexuality on her shirt.
