The Ravens just might be showing their youth. Rookie cornerback Ronnie Prude had an interception in the team's 28-6 thumping of the Oakland Raiders at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday. Second-year cornerback Evan Oglesby, filling in for injured starter Samari Rolle, deflected three passes, including one that was intercepted by linebacker Adalius Thomas. And when nine-time Pro Bowl cornerstone Jonathan Ogden went down in the third quarter with a hyperextended right knee, third-year offensive tackle Adam Terry jumped into the fray.

A HAND FOR BOLLER Quarterback Kyle Boller floated a perfect 44-yard pass over cornerback Willie Gaston into the hands of rookie wide receiver Yamon Figurs. That play caused the crowd to erupt in applause. A GOOD READ The secondary seemed to read the routes the receivers were running and jumped on them with moderate success. Cornerbacks Samari Rolle and Chris McAlister each grabbed interceptions, and cornerback Evan Oglesby ended practice with another interception. BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO Linebacker Joe Martin nearly added his name to that list of defensive players with an interception.

Kelly Gregg said the last time he ran as long and as fast as he did on his 59-yard fumble return late in the third quarter yesterday was during a summer workout. "But I never had the ball and I never had guys chasing me," the defensive tackle said after the Ravens' 28-6 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Gregg never made it to the end zone, getting pushed out at Oakland's 15-yard line and becoming the second Ravens defensive lineman in two weeks to return a turnover a long way without scoring.

When he first came to Baltimore six years ago, Towson University basketball coach Pat Kennedy figured there was a college summer league for his players to join similar to those in Philadelphia, New York and Washington. Kennedy was shocked to learn that there was nothing that closely resembled the Baker, Rucker or Kenner leagues that had become institutions in their respective cities. Kennedy made inquiries about starting one but never got far. "Summer leagues were pretty consistent, and, especially in this hotbed of basketball, I was surprised," Kennedy said last week.
