A year ago, Ron and Barb Ferger left their Pasadena home for a weekend jaunt to Ocean City. The plan was to enjoy Summerfest, the resort's end-of-season festival. Great fans of Ocean City, these two retired Anne Arundel County schoolteachers loved visiting the beach. (Barb Ferger remembers a recent year when her date book recorded a trip every month.) However, Summerfest 2004 would prove to be an unforgettable visit. They were about to become shore residents after a spontaneous visit to a home for sale in South Ocean Pines.

Husband of Estelle Virginia (Schorr) Quandt, father of Susan C. Kight, Ocean Pines, MD, Charles R. Quandt Jr., Annandale, Va. and Bruce A. Quandt, Balto, MD. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

On Friday July 1, 2005, CONSTANCE "Connie" ANN MEO (nee Jones), age 71, died at Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury, MD. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Carmen Paul Meo and her son Philip H. Meo, of Ocean Pines. She was preceded in death by a son Christopher J. Meo in 1994. Also surviving are two sisters, Sally Le Cates of Willards and Jane Palmer of Ocean Pines. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 A.M. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, in Ocean Pines.

Mildred M. "Mickey" Hirschfeld, a former naval intelligence officer and a homemaker, died June 9 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda of complications from an infection. The longtime Ocean Pines resident was 89. Mildred Myrick was born and raised in Norfolk, Va., and earned a bachelor's degree in 1935 from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. In the late 1930s and 1940s, she taught in high schools in Virginia and New Carrollton. She enlisted in the Navy in 1943, serving as a naval intelligence officer in the states and in the Pacific during World War II. She held the rank of lieutenant at her discharge in 1952 - the year she married Henry G. Hirschfeld, a career naval officer.

On May 30, 2005, ELLEN BEIERLE SCHAUB, of Port Jervis, NY, formerly of Towson and Baltimore. Dear mother of Richard A. Schaub of High Point, NC, R. Lawrence Schaub of Ocean Pines, Stephanie O'Hara of Timonium, Carolyn Thayer of Greenville, NY, and the late J. Randolph Schaub. Sister of Agnes Pedicone of Elmwood Park, Ill. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandcildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

On Tuesday, May 31, 2005, MRS. GENEVIEVE PATRICIA GUISE HESS, 87, of Frederick, died at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Claire Hess. Born March 9, 1918 in Emmitsburg, she was a daughter of the late David and Mary Genevieve Rosensteel Guise. Surviving are three children: Judith Campbell and husband Kevin of Hunt Valley, MD, Deborah Keller and husband David of Ocean Pines, MD, and Richard Sheffield and fiance Linda Carter of Winchester, VA; four grandchildren: Alison Baumgardner of Philadelphia, PA, Andrea Campbell of Catonsville, Justin Campbell of Hunt Valley, MD, and Matthew Keller of Ocean Pines, MD. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

On Thursday, May 5, 2005, WILLIAM "Bill" "BR" ROBINSON, age 62, of Ocean Pines, MD., formerly of Balto. beloved husband of Frieda Goldfein Robinson, father of Michael Andrew Robinson (Alicia), grandfather of Joshua Thomas and Jennifer Elizabeth Robinson, all of Richmond, VA. Special son Jonathan Ryan of Balto., brother of Calvin Edward Robinson of Charlotte, N.C. and Patricia Montanari of Naperville, IL., Also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at the Burbage Funeral Home, Berlin, MD. on Tuesday at 11 A.M. where friends may call one hour prior to service.
