Several area wrestlers are still alive after the completion of the first two rounds of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association state wrestling tournament Friday at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House. The tournament, which is being wrestled on eight mats, resumes Saturday morning. The consolation rounds start at 9:30 a.m, and the semifinals begin at 11 a.m. No. 4 Glenelg (42 points) leads the Class 2A-1A team championships after the first day, with a one-point advantage over No. 2 Winters Mill (41)

No. 10 Oakland Mills completed its perfect boys basketball regular season on its home court. The Scorpions extended their 10-point halftime lead and beat Atholton, 58-37, on Thursday night. Oakland Mills finished with regular-season records of 22-0 overall and 19-0 in Howard County. Lavon Long led the way with 15 points. Benjamin Franklin 54, Reginald F. Lewis 34: Kevin McBride scored 15 points to lead the host Bayhawks (19-3, 10-1 City) past the Falcons (0-12, 0-5). No. 11 River Hill 58, No. 13 Howard 47: Megan Sterling scored a game-high 22 points to lead the host Hawks (19-3, 18-1)

Behind a huge second quarter kick-started by Nekhi Bradley and Dajuan Dent, No. 13 Oakland Mills put host River Hill in a hole too deep to dig out of on the way to a 62-52 victory Wednesday in boys basketball. Oakland Mills (17-0 overall, 14-0 in Howard County) opened a two-game lead over second-place River Hill (14-3, 12-2) in the race for the county title. "We talked about how this was the county championship. ... It was there for the taking," Oakland Mills coach Jon Browne said.
