The Orioles played one of their better all-around games of the young season Sunday, using three homers and strong pitching to shut out the Minnesota Twins, 6-0, while capturing their ninth series victory in 12 opportunities. And yet the Orioles fly out of Minnesota for an extended homestand with the potential of losing their most consistent starting pitcher - Taiwanese lefty Wei-Yin Chen - for a few weeks. “I don't even want to think about it,” said Orioles first baseman Chris Davis.

Did your high-tech clock turn itself back on Sunday? Or did you turn it back yourself? If so, you were probably an hour late for church, or the fox hunt, or whatever else you planned for the day. For the first time since 1966, when the Uniform Time Act decreed a nationwide return to standard time on the last Sunday in October, daylight saving time will end this year on the first Sunday in November. OUR SCHOOLS have many talented music students and some of these young people go on to form bands, playing alternative, jazz, bluegrass and rock music. Six of these young groups will play at the RHHStival on Jan. 25 at River Hill High School. The night of music for middle and high school students will give each group an opportunity to play for 25 minutes. "It's more time for each group than for a talent show," said Steve Wampler, band director at River Hill. "It lets the groups be known to the kids."

Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy boast that the only other place this game is played is prison. There are rules, but the main rule is: Kill the guy with the ball. It's called fieldball. Borrowing from rugby, football, soccer and lacrosse, it is widely regarded as the wackiest, most aggressive and dangerous intramural sport played here. The only protective equipment required is a mouthpiece. Injuries are to be expected. In their mud-caked sweat pants, young men -- no women -- shed blood for their team.
