City police have charged a 40-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing Monday night in Northeast Baltimore, closing one of eight killings over the holiday weekend as detectives pursue leads in other cases. Michael Thornton was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 43-year-old Kevin Belton, who was stabbed in the left eye, arm and shoulder and was found on the kitchen floor of a home in the 4800 block of Truesdale Ave. in the Frankford neighborhood. According to charging documents, Belton had been called to the residence by a woman who was arguing with Thornton.

" But as Marvit returned to his Northeast Baltimore home, the 51-year-old scientist and father was gunned down just steps from his front door overlooking Herring Run Park - a seemingly random attack that police said Tuesday may have been a robbery.

A man was shot and later died of his injuries in Northeast Baltimore, according to Baltimore Police. Officers responded to the 1500 block of Roundhill Road, just east of Loch Raven Boulevard, at about 11:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting, police said. The victim was lying on the sidewalk next to a vehicle, as if he was sitting in the driver's seat when he was shot, police said. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m. Investigators are working to confirm his identity, but have tentatively stated he was 25 years old, police said.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake climbed into a cherry picker Wednesday morning, rising above Harford Road to install a new surveillance camera in Northeast Baltimore, one of 33 the city is adding to a network that has grown to nearly 600. The new cameras, which have been installed along East North Avenue and will eventually spring up along Harford and Belair roads around Clifton Park, are funded by federal and local grants. Rawlings-Blake has overseen the addition of 100 cameras to the network since taking office.

City police are searching for a car thief who took the wheel of an idling Ford Explorer Thursday morning in Northeast Baltimore and made off with the vehicle and its 7-year-old passenger. The incident occurred in the 5900 block of Fairwood Avenue in the Glenham-Belhar neighborhood. The child, who was in the back seat, was quickly let out of the vehicle at a MTA bus stop near the intersection of Belle Vista and Hamilton avenues. He was not harmed, police said. The license plate of the silver 2004 Explorer, which is still missing, reads 828 M 506. The car owner was dropping a younger child at a day care center and left the car idling.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman being sought in connection with a hit-and-run murder in Northeast Baltimore last month. The killing occurred Nov. 17 at about 2 a.m. at a Shell gas station in the 5300 block of Frankford Road. At the time, police said a pedestrian was struck and suffered severe head injuries, and was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital where he later died. But police now believe the drivers of a black four-door Mazda intentionally ran over 35-year-old Delma L. Barnes and struck him "several times.

Police have still not identified a man who died Tuesday after being shot in Northeast Baltimore. A 911 caller found a gunshot victim in the Lauraville neighborhood around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said. Around 2:25 a.m., officers responded to a call for shots fired in the 4900 block of Morello Road and canvassed the area, but did not discover a victim. The caller discovered a man in the 2600 block of Southern Avenue. The man was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:21 a.m. Homicide detectives are investigating.

Baltimore homicide detectives are investigating the death of an infant who was found in his Northeast Baltimore home Wednesday afternoon. The father of the four-month-old boy told investigators that he had put the child in his crib with a bottle and returned more than an hour later to find him face down and unresponsive. The child was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:02 p.m. The family's home is located on the 2100 block of Belair Road on the edge of the Four by Four neighborhood.
