Harford County athletes must now take one more step before playing in any games. A new policy will require athletes to provide the school with a recent utility bill to help show proof of residence. "We've had residency issues in the past, and we just want to make sure that we don't put a school in a situation that compromises everything they've worked towards in sports," said Ken Zorbach, the county's supervisor of athletics. The policy was put into place about a week before the winter season began.

In an effort to provide tax relief to homeowners, Republican Sen. Barry Glassman has filed a bill to freeze at current levels those properties due for re-assessment in 2009 and to recalculate assessments completed in the last five years so that those reflect today's market values. The proposal would mean the properties along the Route 40 corridor would remain at the assessment level established three years ago rather than go through the process, scheduled to begin in January and likely to show an increase in value.

DeRan has made a living selling watercolor and acrylic paintings of farm scenes, woodland vistas, American Indians, forest streams and animals, including cows, horses, sheep, birds and turtles, in a style often compared to Andrew Wyeth.

Boys Vollebyall Harford County Championship @ North Harford WHEN: Wednesday, 3 p.m. OUTLOOK: C. Milton Wright comes into the tournament riding high after a perfect regular season. The Mustangs went 14-0 and lost only four sets, none of which came when their first unit was in. They'll also have some revenge on their minds after losing a close match to Fallston in the finals last year. But teams like Havre de Grace, Fallston and others have been strong, and the one-game, 25-point double elimination format can mean some surprises.
