North County wrestler Lorenzo Maddox, competing in the 285-pound weight class, won the Middle Atlantic States Wrestling Association (MAWA) High School Elite Division of the Eastern National Wrestling Championships. He is the first North County wrestler to win the tournament, only the third Maryland high school heavyweight to win the tournament and the fourth Anne Arundel County wrestler to win the tournament in any of the 14 weight classes, according to information released by the school.

Northeast's Brandon O'Malley made short work of visiting North County, throwing 50 pitches in a two-hit, five-inning shutout, as the No. 8 Eagles beat the Knights, 10-0, Friday in baseball. Northeast improved to 1-1. O'Malley went 2-for-3 at the plate, and Matt Bougard had two hits and four RBIs for the Eagles. No. 5 North Harford 8, Fallston 3: Kevin Mooney and Cody Brittain combined to throw a three-hitter, striking out nine for the host Hawks (2-0). North Harford scored eight runs in the second inning.

If you can never get enough of high school basketball, you're in luck this week. You can catch some of the area's best senior boys and girls players at a pair of senior all-star games. The Anne Arundel County Senior All-Star Classic will be held Wednesday night at Arundel High School with girls tipping off at 6 p.m followed by the boys at 8. The Baltimore City-Baltimore County senior all-star games will be held Friday night. The boys will play at Milford Mill at 6 p.m. The girls will play at Woodlawn at 6 p.m. Rosters were not yet available for the City-County game.

North County High School senior Ashely Lim didn't intend to turn the school's hallways into her own virtual art exhibition. But there on a wall in the school's physical education area is a testament to her creativity, a colorfully painted sports mural she calls "Gym" that features athletic wear, sporting equipment and a foaming splash of waves that helps give the work its energy and radiance. "Pretty, isn't it? She did a good job," said North County physical education teacher Nick Cosentino as he walked by. Then he turned to Lim and said, "It's good to see you're being recognized.

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association wrestling tournament last weekend turned up one four-time champion (Nathan Kraisser of Centennial at 126) and four, two-time champs -- La Plata's Josh Llopez (152), Chesapeake-AA's Alex Rice (145), Winston Churchill's Hunter Sutton (138) and Arundel's Tyler Goodwin (132). Controversy off the mat leading in to Friday night's Class 4A-3A East Region wrestling tournament didn't dull the action at Wilde Lake, as 25 teams sent competitors into the quarterfinals. Among the highlights, Centennial senior Nathan Kraisser, who is seeking a fourth regional crown and fourth state championship, advanced to the semifinals at 126 pounds, and North County senior Pat Hyde remained perfect for the season (30-0) at 220. Team-wise, No. 7 River Hill (44 points) leads heading into Saturday's action, followed by Anne Arundel county champion and No. 10 Meade (33.5)
