A little over a month ago, the Maryland men's lacrosse team had the most high-powered offense in the country, a perfect record and the No. 1 ranking. But a strength has turned into their major weakness, and as the Terps prepare to welcome No. 14 Yale to Byrd Stadium in College Park on Saturday, they have been questioning everything about their floundering attack. After averaging 15 goals in its first six contests, Maryland is averaging 8.0 goals and has reached double digits in just one of its past four games.

Johns Hopkins' 7-4 victory over Maryland not only snapped a stretch in which the team had lost three of its last four games, but it also moved the program into the top 20 of the most recent Rating Percentage Index list - also known as RPI - released by the NCAA on Tuesday morning. The Blue Jays (7-4) climbed to No. 16 from No. 22 as they added the win over the Terps (8-2), who dropped from No. 4 to No. 8. Johns Hopkins, which has victories over No. 23 Virginia (5-7) and No. 28 Towson (7-6)

ESPN analyst Quint Kessenich provided commentary for No. 7 Syracuse's 13-12 upset of No. 5 Cornell on Wednesday night and No. 2 Duke's 19-16 victory over No. 16 Virginia on Friday night. The former Johns Hopkins All-American goalkeeper, who can be followed on Twitter via @QKessenich, will be on hand for Saturday's tilt between Navy and No. 15 Johns Hopkins. Kessenich offered his perspective on the No. 1 team in the country, the 10 programs that could advance to the Final Four at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Memorial Day weekend, and the issues plaguing No. 15 Virginia.

No. 4 Maryland was the primary beneficiary of No. 2 Duke's come-from-behind 19-16 victory over No. 16 Virginia Friday night, earning the top seed in the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. The Terps (8-1) finished with a 2-1 record in the league, which was shared by the Blue Devils (10-4) and No. 3 North Carolina (8-3). With the head-to-head results among the three teams and their record against the Cavaliers (5-7) being equal, the next tiebreaker was goals allowed among the three leaders.

- For most of Saturday's women's lacrosse showdown between No. 1 Maryland and No. 2 North Carolina, the Tar Heels managed to keep Maryland from generating their trademark run. In a game that was tied eight times, the Tar Heels slowed the pace early with their deliberate offense, but when the Terps get rolling, they can put up goals in hurry. A four-goal spurt early in the second half provided the momentum behind Maryland's 14-13 victory in the clash of Atlantic Coast Conference rivals.

CBS Sports Network analyst Evan Washburn took part in a Q&A on Monday . The former Delaware defenseman, who can be followed on Twitter at @EvanWashburn , also addressed a few questions about No. 4 Maryland, No. 10 Loyola and No. 12 Johns Hopkins. Do you have any concerns about Maryland or did the 9-7 win against No. 15 Virginia last Saturday re-solidify the Terps' claims as a title contender? I don't really have any concerns. I was able to watch that Virginia game, and all year, I've said that I think it's Maryland and then everybody else.

After an official demanded a new ball to replace a scuffed one midway through the first half of Maryland's game against Penn on Saturday, Terrapins coach Cathy Reese facetiously asked her team, "Is that why we can't catch it?" By that time, Maryland was already in full control and Reese was simply imploring her team to stay focused. The No. 1 Terps would eventually need a wakeup call to withstand a rally from the No. 20 Quakers before pulling away for a 15-10 victory. Maryland improved to 13-0 and is one of only two undefeated teams remaining in the top 20 media poll after Penn State upset No. 2 Florida, 16-11, on Saturday.

Maryland rediscovered itself Saturday, and Virginia is still searching. Terps attackman Jay Carlson scored three goals, and the No. 5 Maryland men's lacrosse team - behind a dominating midfield that scored five times - held on for a 9-7 victory over No. 13 Virginia in front of an announced crowd of 5,226 at Klockner Stadium. The Terps (7-1), who suffered a 10-8 upset loss to North Carolina on March 23, showed no side effects of that loss. Besides Carlson's three goals, offensive midfielders John Haus added two and Mike Chanenchuk had one. But the surprise of the day was long-pole midfielder Jesse Bernhardt's two goals, which showed how the Terps controlled the pace of the game and how quickly goalkeeper Niko Amato got the ball out on clears.
