With Loyola repeatedly knocking it off balance, North Carolina struggled to find solid footing in the first half of Saturday's NCAA tournament second-round game against the Greyhounds. North Carolina would score. Loyola would then counter. North Carolina would score again. Loyola would then counter again. It wasn't until junior Laura Zimmerman scored just as the half expired that the Tar Heels had a toe hold they could use to lift them over Loyola and into the semifinals of the NCAA tournament.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - As Maryland rolled to a two-touchdown lead, it appeared somebody forgot to tell the Terps that their injury-ravaged season was all but over and their bowl hopes just a memory as they played their final game in the fading sunlight at Kenan Stadium against heavily-favored North Carolina. As they celebrated their highest-scoring first half of the season on their sideline, the Terps were like the Whos in Whoville who keep singing after the Grinch steals their Christmas.

This seemed like a perfect scenario for Maryland. The Terps were coming off a thrilling win that helped rebuild the shrinking confidence of second-year coach Mark Turgeon's young team. Until recently, North Carolina had looked like Tar Heels of the past in their powder-blue and white uniforms only. One problem: the Terps didn't show up for the first half of Saturday's game at the Dean Smith Center and the Tar Heels looked more like the kind of teams they have usually had dating back to the years when the legend whose name is on the building was still coaching.

Johns Hopkins moved to the top of many rankings with last Saturday's 11-10 overtime victory over then-No. 1 Virginia. The Blue Jays (8-0) are just one of three undefeated teams and put that unblemished record on the line when they meet No. 10 North Carolina at the Konica Minolta Big City Classic. The Tar Heels (7-3) have lost 24 of the 40 all-time contests with Johns Hopkins, but they are 4-1 in the teams' last five meetings. Here are a few factors that could influence the outcome at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on Sunday.

Dante Fantoni scored the go-ahead goal, his second, to start a 3-0 run and Adam Johnston added the eventual game-winner with 2:52 left as visiting Lehigh upset No. 4 North Carolina, 9-8, Saturday. The host Tar Heels (4-1) took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, before the Mountain Hawks (4-1) stepped up in the second to tie the score, 5-5, at halftime. Fantoni's goal, the only scoring in the third quarter, gave Lehigh the lead as both teams traded three goals each in the fourth quarter.

Welcome back to Morning Shootaround, a regular feature this season the day after Maryland basketball games. While we can't bring you into the Terps' locker room after games -- reporters haven't been allowed in there since the last couple of years under Gary Williams -- we will recap what Maryland coach Mark Turgeon and his players said in the postgame news conference. We will give some of our own insight into what transpired on the court during the previous day's game and what the Terps will be working on at practice looking ahead to their next game.

COLLEGE PARK -- With the euphoria of its 51-50 near-the-buzzer win Wednesday over No. 14 North Carolina State fading, the Maryland men's basketball team knows it will have to do more than just the run the plays that second-year coach Mark Turgeon calls Saturday at North Carolina. The suddenly revived Terps , who had lost two straight games before beating the Wolfpack on Alex Len's front rim lay-in with less a second remaining, will likely have to make a much higher percentage of outside shots and finish inside if they want to take down the Tar Heels.

The Navy men's lacrosse team might have avoided the storm projected to hit the Annapolis area Thursday night, but the same could not be said for what North Carolina delivered. The No. 3 Tar Heels scored the game's first six goals as they overwhelmed the No. 11 Midshipmen, 11-4, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. North Carolina senior attackman Gavin Petracca led all scorers with seven points on two goals and five assists, and senior midfielder Sean DeLaney added three goals and two assists for the Tar Heels, who improved to 4-0 for the third consecutive season.
