People Joins staff: Orthopedic surgeon James Murphy recently joined North Arundel Hospital's medical staff. A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, he has worked as an attending physician at eight Maryland hospitals. New officers: Four members of North Arundel Hospital's medical staff have been named officers of the Anne Arundel County Medical Society. Dr. J. M. Ramirez was elected as a vice president; Dr. Robert Bright, secretary; and Dr. James Chappell and Dr. Rao Sunkara, as alternate delegates to the Maryland State Medical Society.

North Arundel Hospital has named Norrie B. Rabinowitz as staff nurseof its new Outpatient Chemotherapy Program.Her responsibilities include administering the chemotherapy, patient teaching, assessing patient progress, establishing intravenous placements on patients and documenting medical information.The new program is located on 1406 Crain Highway, between Hospital Drive and Aquahart Road.

North Arundel Hospital has promoted Mary A. Giesey of Severn, to assistant director of the Pharmaceutical Services Department. She has worked in the hospital's pharmacy since 1974. In 1984, she was promoted to intravenous supervisor.In 1989, Giesey was named sterile product supervisor. Her responsibilities include the coordination of daily activities in the pharmacy.

$250,000 raised for hospitalNorth Arundel Hospital Foundation's "Starlight Ball in Central Park," held last month at Baltimore's Hyatt Regency, raised $250,000 to purchase new equipment for the Hospital's Radiology Department.More than 850 guests attended the annual benefit that has raised more than $1 million since it began five years ago.

A man who was shot in the head while sitting in his car in Severn late last night was being treated at North Arundel Hospital, Anne Arundel County police said. Police were trying to find witnesses to the shooting, which occurred on Cantor Court around 10:30 p.m.

Walking program to kick off season April 15 in Bay Hills The Bay Hills Hikers walking program will hold a ceremony to kick off the walking season April 15 at City Dock Coffee in Bay Hills Shopping Plaza. The program, co-sponsored by North Arundel Hospital and City Dock Coffee, holds the ceremony each year. Participants will receive promotional items and mileage cards on which they can record mileage each time they walk. A walking course through the Bay Hills community is measured so walkers can determine how far they go. Information: North Arundel Hospital's public relations department, 410-787-4367.

North Arundel Hospital's Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department is expanding to create additional room for extended-care patients and its clinical program.The expansion will have new equipment, including treadmills, stationary bikes and ergometers.Money to purchase the equipment came from this year's Father's Day B&A Trail 10-kilometer run, which raised more than $8,300 for the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department. Money from last year's run also was given to the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program.

J. Paul Buchheit Jr., who owned businesses in the Glen Burnie area, died Sunday at North Arundel Hospital of heart failure. He was 64 and lived on Lake Drive in Bayside Beach.He is survived by his wife, the former M. Charmaine Harman; two daughters, Sarah A. Smith and Paula M. Hook, both of Bayside Beach; a son, John Paul Buchheit III of Pasadena; a sister, S. Frances Trageser of Parkville; and three grandchildren.
