The New York Giants' secondary has been plagued by injuries that have sapped the unit of strong safety Kenny Phillips and cornerback Prince Amukamara for extended periods. But the secondary has been anchored by cornerback Corey Webster (the team leader in pass breakups with nine) and strong safety Stevie Brown (the team leader in interceptions with seven). However, the Ravens appeared to attack the Giants' defensive backfield by exposing Webster on Sunday. When New York went into single coverage, quarterback Joe Flacco usually went after Webster, completing five passes for 88 yards and a 6-yard touchdown to Torrey Smith, two for 45 yards to Anquan Boldin, one for 36 yards to Dennis Pitta, and one for 7 yards to Jacoby Jones.

Albany last played in the NCAA tournament in 2007. That drought may end this spring. The No. 19 Great Danes improved to 7-3 after edging No. 12 Johns Hopkins, 10-9, at Homewood Field in Baltimore Friday night. Already 1-0 in the America East, they warrant consideration as the favorite to win the conference tournament and earn the automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament. But even if an upset were to occur, Albany may have moved closer to getting an at-large berth courtesy of wins against No. 9 Syracuse and the Blue Jays.

On the same day that they lost two key defensive starters, the Ravens filled one of their free agent priorities by adding some size and experience to the interior of their defensive line. Former New York Giant and Dallas Cowboy defensive tackle Chris Canty, who spent the day visiting the team's training facility, put out on his Twitter account a picture of him signing a contract with the Ravens. He agreed to a three-year deal worth $8 million that includes $2.8 million in guaranteed money, according to sources.

Baltimore Sun staff members analyze the Ravens' victory over the New York Giants at M&T Bank Stadium. Mike Preston, columnist: The Ravens showed resiliency after getting embarrassed last week, and the Giants quit for the second straight week. Peter Schmuck, columnist: Obviously, this is the Ravens team everybody has been waiting to see -- a well-oiled offensive machine and a ball-hawking, quarterback-harrassing defense that turned the defending Super Bowl champions into a bunch of guys wondering if they're still a playoff team.

When the game was over, the Ravens had showed more heart and desire than the New York Giants. The Ravens' 33-14 win at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday can be dissected and overanalyzed, but the Ravens were much more resilient and determined than the Giants. Both teams were fighting for division titles and playoff position, and both had been embarrassed the week before in lopsided losses. But this is the time of the season when good teams respond and go forward, and bad ones lose and go home.

Despite an encouraging week of practice and a desire to return, Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis won't play Sunday against the New York Giants. Lewis, who hasn't played since Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys because of a torn right triceps, was not activated before Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline, making him ineligible to face the reigning Super Bowl champions. It will be the ninth straight game Lewis has missed. The 37-year-old has practiced the past three weeks, and several team sources indicated Thursday that they were hopeful Lewis would return against the Giants.

Despite injuries that have sapped the Ravens of the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Terrell Suggs and defensive end Pernell McPhee for several games, the defense has put a fair amount of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The unit's 32 sacks are tied for 16th in the league. Adding to that number this Sunday when the New York Giants visit M&T Bank Stadium won't be easy. Thus far, the Giants offensive line has surrendered NFL lows in both sacks (16) and quarterback hits (42)

Every week, I hope to bring you a quick Q&A with someone who covers the Ravens' opponent that week. This week, I chatted with reporter Jenny Vrentas, who covers the New York Giants for The Newark Star-Ledger. MV: Both the Ravens and Giants are coming off embarrassing losses. Ravens fans saw what happened to their team, at least before they left M&T Bank Stadium during the fourth quarter. But what happened to the Giants, particularly Eli Manning and the passing game, in their shutout loss to the Atlanta Falcons?

At 6 feet and 204 pounds, Victor Cruz is the second-shortest wide receiver on the New York Giants and the third-lightest. But Cruz's impact on the Giants offense figures to loom large for the Ravens and cornerback Corey Graham. When New York employs its three-receiver set, Cruz usually lines up in the slot, where he leads the NFL in productivity, according to Pro Football Focus. And if he lines up in the slot this Sunday, it will be up to Graham to match up against him. “Victor Cruz, he's great off the line” of scrimmage, Graham said prior to Wednesday's practice.

A sprained right ankle forced Marshal Yanda to snap a 44-consecutive starts streak dating back to Nov. 29, 2009. Whether the right guard can avoid back-to-back absences is a mystery. Yanda declined to put a percentage on his return for Sunday's regular-season home finale against the New York Giants and said he's unsure of his availability. “We'll see what happens,” he said prior to Wednesday's practice. “We're going to test it out this week and see how it feels.” Yanda, who was replaced in the Ravens' 34-17 loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday, said he felt close to playing, but elected to avoid the risk of aggravating the sore ankle.
