State chamber elects new officers and directorsThe Maryland Chamber of Commerce has elected new officers and 18 new directors to its board.Arthur D. Ebersberger, president of The Ebersberger Cos., an insurance consulting group in Severna Park, is the new chairman. Jerome Evans, vice chairman and chief financial officer of First National Bank, is the new vice chairman.New directors are:Parker O. The Carroll County General Hospital Auxiliary installed new officers at a recent meeting.They are: Phyllis Ullman, president; Joan Horney, vice president; Shirley Hayes, recording secretary; Erma Frock, corresponding secretary; and Mary Mussari, treasurer.Ruth Dennison-Tedesco, vice president of the CCGH Foundation, installed the officers.The auxiliary's main function is to raise money for the hospital. From 1989 to 1998, the auxiliary contributed more than $650,000 to hospital projects and programs.

Internal Revenue Service to hold Problem Solving DayThe Internal Revenue Service will hold a Problem Solving Day for individuals with long-standing tax problems from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Valley Elementary School.Individuals can meet with IRS employees to address their tax problems."We want to reach out to taxpayers who have been unable to resolve their problems," said Marie A. TANEYTOWN LIONS Club recently installed new officers in a ceremony held at the Firemen's Activity Building.Claude Elmore, a four-year member, was installed as president. Elmore told members he hopes to increase membership and expand the traditional fund-raisers that have provided money for the group's community service programs.Other new officers include George Sauble, first vice president; Fred Martin, second vice president; Ron Cain, third vice president; James Fair, secretary; Donald Lawyer, treasurer; Dean Sholl, lion tamer; David Buie, tail twister; Richard Koontz, membership chairman; Jim Storey, one-year director; Richard Koontz, one-year director; EmRoy Gehlsen, two-year director; and Fern Haines, two-year director.

THE SAVAGE FEST is now a memory. It was a perfect summer day: good food, music, lighthearted games and pony rides.It's still too early to tell how much the Savage Community Association has earned from last week's fund-raiser, but the indicators look good.Best of all, the event was a pleasure for everyone.Special thanks to Myra Phelps who has the reputation of being such an efficient coordinator that she gets dragooned into service for the Savage Fest each year.Due to her preparations -- and her graciousness -- everything ran smoothly.

Six candidates have filed for two Town Council seats and two others for mayor in the May 13 election in New Windsor.Councilwoman Rebecca H. Harman, running a door-to-door campaign for a third term, faces competition from Neal Roop, Mike Fritz, Dale Gray, Byron Welker and Kevin Null. Councilman James Carlisle has not filed for a second term, but prospective candidates have until April 14 to file at the town office.Incumbent Mayor Jack A. Gullo Jr. will run for a second term against Sam Pierce.
