Age 82, of Claymont, DE, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Survived by her beloved husband of 58 years John Mersinger, her children; John and Jeanne, both of MD, Dorothy of South Carolina, Robin and Lawrence, both of DE, and their spouses, sister Dorothy and brother Leonard are of MD; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral Ceremony will be held Monday, September 22, 2003 at 11:30 A.M. at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon, September 21, 2003 from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. at the funeral home.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- At 5 years old, Amanda Lee Riggins has faced some of life's toughest challenges, brushes with death when she was born and now confusion over the July 1 disappearance of her mother -- a mystery in which her father is allegedly a suspect.The Elkridge girl is at the center of a custody battle between her mother's parents, with whom she has been living in Pennsylvania, and her father of Elkridge.She doesn't understand it all, but her pain and frustration prompt an almost instinctive cry."

Man found fatally shot in East Baltimore An unidentified man was found shot in the head in the 1800 block of N. Regester Ave. in East Baltimore at 12:59 a.m. yesterday, Baltimore police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, city police spokeswoman Nicole Monroe said. Police had no suspects and knew of no motive. Anyone with information is urged to call the homicide division at 410-396-2100. Baltimore sheriff's office arrests 25 The Baltimore City Sheriff's Office arrested 25 people on outstanding warrants during an early-morning raid yesterday, officials said.

George R. Zambelli Sr., 79, whose family-owned fireworks company is one of the oldest and largest in the country, died of the flu Thursday in New Castle, Pa. He was president and general manager of Zambelli Fireworks Internationale, based in New Castle, about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The company was founded in 1893 by Italian immigrant Antonio Zambelli and has staged thousands of shows in the United States and abroad, including July Fourth celebrations, presidential inaugurations, Super Bowls, the Kentucky Derby, concerts and parades.

I have ridden a cable car into San Francisco's famed Chinatown on a gorgeous, pre-spring night. I have seen leaves turn the most magnificent shades of red and gold during a maple-sugared fall in Vermont. I have washed down sweet beignets with strong, chicory-laced coffee and people-watched on a sticky August morning at the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.
