Baltimore native Jason Winer knows something about family comedy. He's been an executive producer on ABC's "Modern Family" and won a Directors Guild Award for his direction of the hit series' Emmy Award-winning pilot. This week, "1600 Penn," a family sitcom about a fictional first family that he co-created, joins NBC's Thursday night lineup. (A sneak preview of the pilot aired in December.) On Wednesday, Winer and the cast will be guests at the real White House where the series will be screened for President Obama.

Sunday night's big victory by the Washington Redskins over the Dallas Cowboys set a record for NBC prime time TV -- and that's saying something for the No. 1 show on television. The ratings jackpot is well-deserved. The Redskins played a gutty, emotional and smart game with their stars going all out and leaving everything on the field. And NBC's peerless broadcast team delivered another gem of a telecast. The work of Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth in the booth Sunday night was the match of any team in the history of NFL television.

The new year brings some new jobs on radio and Internet for one-time Baltimore media figures Anita Marks, Marc Clarke and Troy Johnson. Marks, a former show host at 105.7 The Fan, will start Jan. 5 as a weekend host on NBC Sports Radio. Her shift will run from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays. At this point, no Baltimore stations carry the NBC Sports Network. Several stations in Washington do, but none carries the full lineup of NBC programming. 'NBC Sunday Night Football' isn't just in a league of its own when it comes to NFL telecasts. It lives on another planet so far away from the nearest competition that it can't even be judged by the same standards. And last night's broadcast of the Baltimore Ravens 13-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers was another gold-plated example of that truth. There's a reason it's the highest rated prime-time program on network TV -- there is nothing else like it. If you started with the "Football Night in America" pre-game show at 7 p.m. Sunday, you were treated to five hours of the best highlights, perspective, analysis, pop culture conversation and live game coverage that you are ever going to see on TV on any one night -- five hours of excellence!

Outside of Barack Obama, one of Tuesday's biggest winners was CNN, which not only presented the best journalism but also finished first among cable channels in viewers. According to Nielsen's Fast Ratings, CNN was seen by an average audience of 8.8 million total viewers from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. election night. It also had audiences of 4.4 million adults ages 25 to 54 and 2.7 million viewers between the ages of 18 and 34. That topped perennial ratings winner Fox News, which had an audience of 8.7 million total viewers, with 3.5 million and 1.2 million in the key demos.

Baltimore native Jason Winer signed a new deal with 20th Century as NBC announced a premiere date for his sitcom, "1600 Penn," according to the trade publication Variety . The deal will keep the Friends School graduate writing-producing and directing at 20th Century Fox where he's been since 2007. During that time, he won a Directors Guild Award for his work on the pilot of "Modern Family," while an executive producer on that series. Winer's new series, "1600 Penn," will premiere Jan. 10 on what is now the top-ranked prime time network.

Here's the kind of Ravens analysis I didn't hear from the CBS broadcast team during the network's telecast of Baltimore's 43-13 loss Sunday. It came Sunday night on NBC from Rodney Harrison, one of that network's excellent analysts. Harrison: “Baltimore's defense is struggling and part of the responsibility of your offense is to take the pressure off your defense. You do that by running the football. Ray Rice is your best player, not Joe Flacco. Run the ball, take pressure off of them.” CBS should have been pounding this analysis home from the third quarter on during the game.

Baltimore's Nelly's Echo made his second - and unfortunately last - appearance on NBC's “The Voice” Monday night, as contestants entered into the battle rounds and some, sadly, went home. TEAM CHRISTINA   Nelly's Echo - Nelson Emokpae, for us local fans - was pitted against Chicago's De'Borah, and NBC has garnered my wrath for unfairly pairing MY TWO FAVORITES AND FORCING ONE OF THEM TO LEAVE. Coach Christina Aguilera had the two taking on The Police's “Message in a Bottle,” and frankly, during rehearsals, De'Borah was a mess, while Nelson seemingly had the win already in hand.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and longtime Ravens nemesis Hines Ward has a new job as analyst for NBC's "Football Night in America. " But he's still feeling the old "hate" when he comes to Baltimore. Ward, who will be working in Baltimore tonight during the prime-time matchup between the Ravens and New England Patriots, posted this little chronicle on the "hate" he received on his journey to Baltimore for the game. Judging for all the parenthetical "haha's," I'm guessing there's some tongue in cheek from Ward here, but he was a much better receiver than he is a writer, so I am not so sure.
