How about flagrant fouls? Ira Winderman Sun Sentinel No. Technical fouls are not the issue, not when you get 15 before you can incur a suspension with a 16th. If you can't retain your composure so that you are being called for a technical once every four games, you deserve to be punished. The greater point of inspection should be for flagrant fouls, where a single whistle can lead to instant ejection, as was the case this week with Timberwolves guard J.J. Barea.

A new holiday commercial for the NBA features Baltimore's Carmelo Anthony and other hoops stars playing a most unusual instrument: basketballs. Using nothing but bouncing balls, Melo and the other players offer a rather amazing rendition of the Christmas classic "Carol of the Bells. " Suppose it's actually "Carol of the Balls. The biggest overachiever in Maryland basketball history -- maybe in the modern college game -- is trying to beat the odds again. At age 33, a decade after leading the Terps to the NCAA men's championship, three years removed from his last NBA game and now rehabilitating an injured left knee, Juan Dixon is plotting his comeback. "Don't count me out," Dixon said Thursday in his first extensive interview since being banned in February 2010 from playing in Europe after failing a drug test the previous season.

Here's the best-kept secret when NBA writers talk about college players: They have no idea. They can only tell you who their coaches are. And only at Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky. Actually, funnier than asking NBA writers about college kids are asking NBA coaches, past or present. Jeff Van Gundy looked like a guy who didn't have answers to a pop quiz Thursday night.

Another hectic NBA trade deadline passed Thursday. Over the past few days, we saw players such as Carmelo Anthony, Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Kendrick Perkins, Baron Davis, Devin Harris, and the immortal Joel Przybilla switch jerseys as teams recalibrated for a playoff run. Meanwhile, top-tier teams such as the Lakers, Heat, Bulls, Magic and Spurs stood pat. It will be interesting to see if any of the pre-deadline deals will shift the...

Productive point guard Zach McCann Orlando Sentinel Without a doubt, Kemba Walker was the best point guard in the NCAA this season. He led Connecticut to a national title with his tremendous leadership, quickness, vision and scoring ability — all traits that will smoothly transfer to the NBA and make him a productive point guard. The knocks on Walker are that he's too short and that he doesn't shoot well enough to be an NBA guard, but those limitations won't keep him becoming a useful player.

The Washington Wizards were one of several teams that Maryland center Jordan Williams has worked out for as he runs the gamut before the June 23 NBA draft, and after Tuesday’s workout at Verizon Center, he said he has a hectic schedule the next couple of weeks as he tries to improve his draft stock. Williams told The Baltimore Sun that he decided to enter the draft after he left College Park in March to attend a basketball camp in Las Vegas. After a few weeks, he was convinced his game was NBA-ready . "I went to the camp with the mindset, 'I think I'm ready, but I know I've got to prove it,’" said Williams, who has dropped 19 pounds.
