For an offensive lineman at the U.S. Naval Academy, it's as much a calling as it is a job. Much like being in the military. You must be strong, but also athletic. You need to be relatively tall and broad shouldered, yet nimble enough to chase after, and then block, safeties. You need to be an intellectual in the classroom, but also have a nasty streak on the football field. You need to be heavy, but not too heavy, because of the academy's intense fitness requirements. And you need to play in virtual anonymity despite having, arguably, the most crucial job in the Midshipman's rushing juggernaut.

Greg Brown scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Tuesday night as Navy defeated Neumann, 74-62. Neumann (0-2), a Division III team, was undone by 35 turnovers and an inability to keep Navy from grabbing key offensive rebounds. The Midshipmen (1-2) grabbed 17 offensive rebounds to Neumann's nine. Navy had beaten its previous four Division III opponents over the past four years by an average of 32.3 points, so the Knights gave the Midshipmen a better game than most. In fact, the Knights took their final lead, 45-44, on Marquise Boggs' jumper with 13:37 to play.

Navy women's soccer team could not have started the season off with a more frustrating loss. The Mids welcomed then-No. 13 Maryland to their field on Aug. 17 for a showdown of the top teams in the state and found out quickly it would be a long match. Terps midfielder Becky Kaplan started the game off quickly scoring the first of her two goals in the 15th minute, and Navy was unable able to recover. Kaplan scored again in the game's 58th minute, and teammate Alex Reed sealed the deal with the Terps' third and final goal 20 minutes later.

For the second game in a row, Navy committed more turnovers than its opponent. Perhaps not coincidentally, the Midshipmen lost both games. The team turned the ball over 18 times compared to No. 18 Fairfield's 13 in an eventual 10-9 loss last Tuesday. On Sunday, Navy coughed up the ball 17 times versus Georgetown's 16 turnovers in a 9-8 overtime loss. The Midshipmen's inability to protect the ball has been a theme harped on by coach Rick Sowell, who was understandably dismayed by the team's performance against the Hoyas.
