Navy coach Richie Meade was plenty pleased the No. 10 Midshipmen defeated Virginia Military Institute, 13-5, on Saturday. But he took umbrage with a line of thought that Navy should have won by a greater margin and the score should not have been tied 5-5 at halftime. ( For more, go to baltimoresun.com/lacrosseblog)

Replay Navy slotback Reggie Campbell returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown - setting a school record and tying an Army-Navy game record - to answer Army's only score and give the Midshipmen a 14-3 lead. The return gave fans a clear look at Campbell's jitterbug running ability and at the great blocking he got from the Mids' special teams. Erase Though the Mids accumulated 38 points, the Navy offense never really got going. Navy scored on only one drive of more than four plays and capitalized on great field position provided by its improving defense, which had its best game of the season.

The seven goals - which came on just nine shots - tied the school's single-game scoring record for freshmen and were one shy of Danielle Vivonetto's single-game school mark. Generi scored five straight goals during a 15-1 run and added eight draw controls and three ground balls.

When Brad Snyder swims, he can't see the water. He can't see his opposition, he can't see the clock and, most importantly, he can't see the wall. But by just visualizing himself in the pool, Snyder is now London-bound. The 28-year-old Snyder lost his vision after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan last September while serving as a bomb defuser in the Navy. But earlier this month, less than a year since losing his vision permanently, he was named to the United States Paralympic swimming roster.

Shaped like a teardrop and carved out of the eastern bank of the Bush River, the UNDEX Test Facility at Aberdeen Proving Ground has earned the nickname "Super Pond" for its unusual properties. Viewed from above, the man-made pond looks much darker than the nearby waters of the Chesapeake Bay. That's because it drops 150 feet to a flat bottom, where, out of view of the public, the military tests missiles, torpedoes, sonar and the effects of explosions on submarines and boats - all within walls that can withstand the equivalent of 4,100 pounds of TNT. It's also where Navy divers practice salvage missions.
