The residents of six homes in the Hillendale section of Baltimore County were evacuated for about 2 1/2 hours last evening while a natural gas leak was repaired.A county Fire Department spokesman said the leak was reported about 5: 30 p.m. and residents of 1201 to 1211 Linkside Drive near Taylor Avenue were evacuated while Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. crews dug up the street, located and repaired the leak in a 10-inch main.Pub Date: 3/17/99

Units were out two hours.Taneytown: Firefighters responded at 8: 32 p.m. Monday to a natural gas leak in the 500 block of E. Baltimore St. Units were out one hour.Harney: Firefighters assisted Adams County, Pa., at 5: 04 p.m. Monday, responding to a woods fire in the 200 block of Harney Road. Units were out one hour and 15 minutes.

A 35-year-old man was treated for injuries from a manhole cover explosion and flash fire on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County fire officials said. Flames from a blowtorch used by workers laying road striping near the Cromwell light rail station caused a manhole cover to explode just after noon and started a fire, said Battalion Chief Lee Cornwell. The manhole cover struck one worker, who was treated for minor burns and trauma at North Arundel Hospital, Cornwell said.

Carrolltowne Elementary School in Eldersburg was evacuated yesterday for more than an hour because of a natural gas line leak. To protect pupils from the cold during the evacuation, officials moved them to the Carrolltown Center mall from about 11 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. while the leaking 2-inch gas line was repaired, officials said. Sixteen firefighters in four trucks responded to help with the evacuation, but nobody was hurt and the school was not damaged, fire officials said.

A Reisterstown man is being held on cocaine charges at the Carroll County Detention Center after being arrested during a drug raid early Saturday.Bernard H. Davis, 32, was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia after Westminster police raided a Sullivan Avenue apartment at 3: 52 a.m. and seized suspected cocaine, paraphernalia and $1,649, police said.FireReese: Firefighters responded at 4: 10 a.m. Sunday to an oil spill on Baltimore Boulevard. Units were out 40 minutes.
