Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi may have been the first famous father-daughter team of artists, but that was way back during the 17th century in Italy. Today, the tradition is carried on in Baltimore by R.G. Book and his offspring, Darsie Book, whose show at Mount Washington's Beveled Edge Gallery is a family reunion that brings the art of father and daughter together after years of separation. Book pere is a sculptor whose meticulously crafted works of wood, metal and stone are all permutations of the skeletal structure of the human spine.

AFP: American Fighter Pilot is a classic example of what U.S. media does better than almost anything: Create myths that make us feel better about ourselves as a nation. CBS is billing the show that premieres tomorrow night as a "new reality series" from directors Tony Scott (Top Gun) and Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down). In terms of structure, it is a reality series in the way that it follows three young Air Force officers through 110 days of Top Gun training to become F-15 fighter pilots, the elite of elite.

If you've been a Baltimore baseball fan for any length of time, or happen to know someone who was, the name of Roberto Clemente has been seared into your consciousness for quite a while.Clemente, who patrolled right field for the Pirates from the late 1950s through the early 1970s, virtually single-handedly beat the Orioles in the 1971 World Series."He didn't play right field. He performed in right field," said former Oriole Frank Robinson.Despite four batting titles, 12 Gold Gloves and 3,000 career base hits, Clemente, a Puerto Rican native, felt underappreciated and misunderstood because of his race and heritage.

The rustle and whisper of taffeta, the float of ballerina tulle, the poise of formal satin -- every woman should experience the flutter of an entrance in a gala dress. Those fashion moments occur all too rarely, alas. Grand balls and great occasions have been supplanted by box suppers and wine tastings. There is something in the air right now, however. Fancy gowns are again waltzing through holiday collections. Designers are taking a nostalgic look at billowy skirts, crinolines and bustles and finding them charming.

Besides the horses themselves, few things change at Pimlico from each third Saturday in May to the next, and that sense of tradition is precisely what ABC intends to present in bulk for the ++ 120th running of the Preakness tomorrow (4:30 p.m., Channel 2).From the opening montage -- a look back at the history of the race, backed by a stirring musical score -- to the telecast's second opening sequence, airing just before the 5:31 p.m. post time, featuring the weather vanes that carry the colors of Preakness winners, ABC's telecast will be awash in the traditions that naturally flow from the racetrack.
