Sitting in her empty office off the WJZ newsroom shortly before going to the set for her last broadcast after more than a quarter of a century on Baltimore TV, Sally Thorner said she felt focused and strong. "I'm actually good today," the 54-year-old said. "There was a certain point where I was drained by all of this, but not now - now that it's actually here. I'm not promising I won't break up tonight, but I'm really feeling strong. And I have to be strong and focused on air. I really don't want to go out sloppy.

The show opens with text telling us that last night was about the best year of their lives, but that tonight will be "The worst night ... " I really hope that's not true for any of these people. The opening number is all the female pros and troupe members dancing to "Run the World (Girls)" by Beyonce. This routine singlehandedly keeps the red fringe industry going for another year. Tom comments, looking over at the women taking their bows, "I love this job. " And we love you, Tom. Quick clip montage of last night's dances.

The Orioles paid homage to the late Cal Ripken Sr. yesterday with baseball's version of a 21-gun salute. In a stirring and unprecedented pre-game ceremony, the club presented a video tribute to its former manager and coach, who died March 25 from lung cancer.Eyes fixed on the JumboTron scoreboard, the hushed crowd of 46,733 watched as Ripken's career -- or 33 seconds of its highlights -- flashed before it.There was Ripken, in timeless Orioles footage, throwing batting practice as he did for more than a decade; giving signs from his third base coach's box; and slapping a player (Floyd Rayford)

The episode starts with a visit from Native American Ken Hotate, which sets up some great jokes about the Pawnee relationship with the local tribe, which Leslie describes as "murder-y. " Hotate is fun, poking the white people's political correctness and urge not to offend. In advance of their impending nuptials, Ben and Leslie are having their bachelor and bachelorette parties on the same night. Ann is planning Leslie's party with dancing, karaoke, booze, and "anything that can be penis-shaped, will be penis-shaped.

The greatest marriage of sight and sound in the cinema was between Soviet filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein and his compatriot, composer Sergei Prokofiev. The first fruit of that partnership -- the 1938 film epic, "Alexander Nevsky" -- was the centerpiece last night in Meyerhoff Hall for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's final program of the season. This was not the 40-minute cantata that Prokofiev fashioned from his film score. It was all 107 minutes of Eisenstein's great movie (in a fine-looking, restored print)

Wow,was there ever a lot of sex in America in the autumn of 1945.At least that's how "Homefront," premiering at 9:30 tonight on WJZ-TV (Channel 13), sees it. The weekly drama, which replaces "thirtysomething" in ABC's lineup, makes small-town America in the 1940s feel just like Dallas in the 1980s and Knot's Landing in the 1990s.Gee, dad, was it really that way or does it just look like it because David Jacobs, the executive producer here, was also the producer for "Dallas" and "Knots Landing"?
