Seven people were treated for minor injuries early yesterday after they escaped from a burning home near Reese by jumping from second-floor bedroom windows, authorities said.Fire officials are investigating the cause of the two-alarm fire at a 2 1/2 -story wood house in the 1300 block of Baltimore Blvd. (Route 140). The fire began about 12: 40 a.m. on the front porch and was brought under control in 30 minutes by volunteers from Reese, Westminster, Gamber and Hampstead.The house was occupied by Deborah McKenzie, 32, and four children, Steven, 15; Ashley, 10; Katie, 7; Beyon, 5; and Mark A. Hoff, 23; and Denny Gist, 7.All were taken to Carroll County General Hospital, where they were treated for injuries, including smoke inhalation and lacerations, and released, state fire marshals said.

About 200 white supremacists on their way to a Washington rally were attacked with gas grenades, tire irons, baseball bats and hockey sticks at a Southeast Baltimore hotel yesterday, police said. Twenty to 30 people were arrested on assault and weapons charges in the melee, which erupted about 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot, lobby and hotel rooms of the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in the 5600 block of O'Donnell St., police said. Officials said about 30 to 40 people participated in the attack.

Three school buses crashed into one another Monday afternoon in Upper Marlboro, sending 34 high schoolers to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Paramedics triaged 75 students on the scene, according to Prince George's County Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Mark Brady. The buses had just left Frederick Douglass High School and were loaded with teenagers headed home when they rear-ended one another at a low speed, Brady said in a news release. The buses were in line at a traffic light on the 7600 block of Croom Road, near Route 301. "All injuries are considered very minor," the release said, adding that parents of the transported children were notified.

Six children on their way Meadowvale Elementary School in Havre de Grace were injured Friday morning as a driver heading the opposite direction crossed the double yellow lines, police said. Harford County Police said Carol Allen, 57, of Havre de Grace, heading west Level Road towards I-95, struck bus # 611 driven by Thomas Knight, 61, also of Havre de Grace around 8:15 a.m. Police said then the school bus then spun into the west bound lane of Level Road striking a1998 Chevy Trailblazer, driven by Edward Folderauer, 55, of Forest Hill.

A Baltimore police officer was injured on southbound Interstate 83 Thursday evening when her patrol car was rear-ended by another vehicle. Police said the accident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. as the Northern District patrol officer was helping a motorist with a disabled vehicle near 28 t h Street. Police could not confirm whether the officer was inside her cruiser at the time. Detective Kevin Brown, a police spokesman, said the officer suffered minor injuries, including scrapes to the elbow and leg. "She was taken to the hospital as a precaution and released shortly thereafter," Brown said.

A 32-year-old Anne Arundel County man who started a popular local breaking-news service was killed in a two-vehicle car crash in Pasadena early Saturday morning, police said. Brian David McDevitt of Pasadena was pronounced dead at the scene. Two teenagers sustained minor injuries. John McAndrew, a police spokesman, said there is evidence that McDevitt was speeding at the time of the crash. McDevitt was a custodian at Severna Park High School, where he had worked for about seven years, according to Anne Arundel Schools spokesman Bob Mosier.

Five people were taken to the hospital after they were injured in a crash on Interstate 95 on Sunday night involving multiple cars, Baltimore County Fire Department officials said. The crash happened about 9 p.m. on southbound I-95 near the exit for I-195, officials said. One person was critically injured, two people were seriously injured and two people had minor injuries, the fire department said. The University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center was at capacity, fire officials said, so patients were taken elsewhere.

Four pretrial inmates at the Baltimore City Detention Center were stabbed by a fellow detainee and taken to hospitals Friday, a spokesman with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said. A fifth man was suffered minor injuries and was treated inside the facility, spokesman Mark A. Vernarelli in a statement. The four others were taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The stabbing occurred in housing for men awaiting trial for crimes allegedly committed in Baltimore City, the statement said.

Belair Road has been closed in both directions for more than an hour this evening after a southbound vehicle went airborne after striking an SUV, killing an unidentified man and injuring two others, Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Kevin Cartwright said. The accident took place about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ravenwood Avenue when the driver of the southbound car, described as a coupe, crossed into oncoming traffic, Cartwright said. One man in the coupe was pronounced dead on the scene and another was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
