How do you mark the impending closure of a beloved book store, art gallery and performance space? A flash mob through the streets of Hampden. Friends of the Minas Gallery surprised owners Minas Konsolas and Peggy Hoffman by singing "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" last Sunday. The store will soon close after 22 years so Konsolas can spend more time on his artwork. They tooted kazoos, shook tambourines and beat a drum made out of a water cooler, much to the surprise and delight of Konsolas and Hoffman.

Michael Mina's name is familiar to Baltimore restaurant-goers from the suite of restaurants he developed for the Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore - Wit & Wisdom, Pabu and Lamill Coffee. But Mina's base of operations is in San Francisco, and the Michelin-starred chef is a hardcore 49ers fan. He'll be attending the Super Bowl in New Orleans with his sons. Mina has advice for folks throwing a Super Bowl potluck party at home. His cioppino can be made in advance, so the hosts and their guests can give their full attention to the game.

In Mina Cheon's native Korea, the merging of traditional Korean culture with customs from foreign lands is a popular trend called globalism. Mina and Gabriel Kroiz have another word for it: love. From the first, Mina and Gabriel's romance has been a blend of their two distinct cultural backgrounds. In February 1999, Mina was a graduate student at the Maryland Institute, College of Art's Hoffberger School of Painting. Gabriel teaches architecture at the institute. A love of art was about the only thing the couple shared when they met by chance on campus one snowy evening.

Clipboard in hand, Glenn Mina headed off to his new job recently: visiting the homes of rapists and child molesters. His duty for the Harford County Sheriff's Office is to make sure they live where they say they live. He recounted knocking one recent morning on the door of a Joppatowne man who had served several years in prison for a sex offense and is on probation. His wife answered the door and became alarmed when she learned that the Sheriff's Office was looking for her husband, Mina said.

Mina Cheon is used to seeing things from multiple perspectives. As a child in South Korea, the artist was exposed to two religious philosophies — Buddhist on her father's side, Christian on her mother's — and embraced a third as an adult, converting to Judaism when she married a Baltimore architect. When she started studying in 1997 with the celebrated abstract expressionist Grace Hartigan at the Maryland Institute College of Art , Cheon focused on traditional painting methods.

Growing up in Seoul, Mina Cheon thought everyone around her was an artist. "Having very culturally inspired parents, they took me to museums every weekend and threw parties for artists and exhibited art around the house. " But there was a different inspiration for Cheon's exhibition "Polipop & Paintings," on view at Maryland Art Place through June 30 (you can see her work under black lights from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. tomorrow). When she visited North Korea in 2004, she started creating work that "was a merger between geo-politics, global media and culture, and pop art. " Cheon, 38, who lives in "lovely, historic, pollen central Bolton Hill," chats with b about eschewing cable TV, the work she's most proud of and more.

Four days after Tom Sietsema reported that Wit & Wisdom, A Michael Mina Tavern was looking for a new executive chef, representatives of the Mina Group could not confirm that executive chef Benjamin Lambert was being replaced. Sietsema's one-and-a-half star review of Wit & Wisdom in The Washington Post wasn't a pan exactly, but it probably wasn't the review that the San Francisco-based Mina Group wanted for their signature restaurant in the Four Seasons Baltimore Hotel, located in the Inner Harbor's Harbor East development.

We know a lot about some of the big 2012 projects and almost nothing about others. But it's looking like 2012 could be the year of the comeback. After a long absence, the founder of the Baltimore's first brew pub is returning to the restaurant business, and by the time summer gets here, diners could be back at a new Donna's in Mount Vernon and a revived Werner's downtown. Until the last contractor leaves and the all of the inspectors have come through, restaurants tend to be reticent about specifics like opening dates.

The Sunday review for Dec. 10 is of Wit & Wisdom, A Tavern by Michael Mina, the 365-day restaurant at the new Four Season Hotel Baltimore. The bottom line is it won't cost you anything to go in and take a look. Observing that Wit & Wisdom   in the Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore had perhaps an over-abundance of good ideas, I felt like Emperor Joseph II telling Mozart that the Marriage of Figaro had too many notes. But there is a lot going on at Wit & Wisdom. There's the attention-grabbing, room-dominating open wood-fire and rotisserie area, which looks more a stage set than it should.
