An even-tempered wrestler, McDonogh's Jack Clark has twice won the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association and private schools state tournaments, as well as a National Preps crown after having been a runner-up the past two years. But during the host Eagles' McDonogh Holiday Duals on Friday, the 145-pound junior showed how dominant he can be against the best Maryland has to offer when he's a little fired up. Clark began the day with a pin over John Carroll's Artie Milner before scoring a 21-5 technical fall over Wilde Lake's Malik Jackson.

You know you're old when? When you go out to interview a driver and are shocked by how young he looks when you're sure you interviewed him in the 1980s. Tommy Milner laughed. "You're thinking of my father," said the American Le Mans Series points leader in the GT class. "He used to race at Summit Point. Is that where you remember him from?" Yes, I remembered his father from Summit Point. This Tommy Milner is 26. He and his teammate, co-driver Oliver Gavin, lead the GT championship in their No. 4 Corvette C6.R by 18 points over Corvette teammates Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia in the No. 3 companion car coming into Saturday's ALMS race at the Baltimore Grand Prix.

There's no wall separating the two rooms that make up the set for Arena Players' production of Ron Milner's "Checkmates." But there might as well be.The play's heavy-handed point is the lack of common ground between the people who live in these rooms. On one side, we have the kitchen of Frank and Mattie Cooper -- a kindly, happily married couple who've been together more than 40 years. On the other side, we have the living room of their tenants, Sylvester and Laura Williams -- young, upwardly mobile newlyweds who can only communicate in bed.Once you get past the confusingly staged opening scene, it quickly becomes apparent that the action is going to jump back and forth between these rooms like the ball in a tennis match; and not long after that, you realize the older generation is going to win the game hands down.

It is a trembly and vulnerable Michael Caine who we see in Is Anybody There?, a finely drawn and gentle British drama propelled by another of the star's unforgettable screen portraits. Caine plays Clarence, an aging magician struggling to keep hold of his dignity and his mind in the face of the pitiless approach of old age. He's been packed off to Lark Hall, an old-age home in a small seaside town, a sort of boarding house for those not far from whatever eternity awaits them. What Clarence discovers is an unexpected friendship with Edward (Bill Milner)

Anybody thinking about buying or selling a house this spring probably is asking the same questions: In terms of historical real estate cycles, is this a smart time for me to be in the market? After a record five-year boom in prices and sales, isn't it obvious to everybody that the party is pretty much over -- especially in high-fizz, high-cost markets of the West Coast, Florida, Washington, Phoenix and Las Vegas? Won't rising mortgage rates and fast-accumulating inventories of unsold houses cool the market even further in the months ahead?

FYLINGDALES MOOR, England - It sure is a swell view from Mike Milner's Saltersgate Inn pub, with its rolling land, grazing sheep. And a radar station designed to detect a first launch to nuclear Armageddon. "You live with things in your own back yard," Milner says. "In the end, you don't even think about it." Milner resides in the shadow of the Royal Air Force's Fylingdales radar base, which helped keep a chilled peace during the Cold War and may one day be upgraded to play a vital role in America's aspirations to create a National Missile Defense program.
